2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Delta fuel tank with pump

I found an ad for a 105 gal Delta fuel tank with a Fill-rite 15gpm pump for less than $500. I called the guy and he said it is bone dry but it smells like it had gasoline in it. Is there any way a person could clean out this tank and pump to make sure there is no more gas in it? I do not want to spend more money than I have to. would I be better off to buy all new or what? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If it is bone dry I would fill it with Diesel Fuel and carry on. Run a couple gallons of fuel through the pump to flush it before refueling anything and go for it. That is a good price.

If there are no chunkies or rust I really don't think it will hurt anything. If it clean inside and only smells of gasoline it should not be an issue. If you are the least bit nervous about it pass and find one that has only had Diesel in it.



Plus what he is smelling may be Diesel residue, old fuel has a smell all it's own. You don't see many people up here transporting Gasoline in those things, good chance to go BOOM... .

My personal opinion (I have lots of those ) is you're missing out. If you're in doubt as to how clean it is inside, install a filter setup on the pump output, and as Mike said, "Carry on. " I've swapped them many times, and as long as you dilute it by filling substantially, there are little problems... . I've had to transport gas before, and do it by emptying my tank of diesel, then filling it plumb full of gasoline, 120gal tank, changing the filter, and then emptying the gas after filling the truck or tractor..... Then it goes back to diesel, and the same thing. Empty, change filter, fill full, carry on. A miniscule amount of gasoline in there won't hurt your truck, say 1 gallon to 105. Gasoline is prone to attract water, though, and often, a steel tank that's had gasoline in it will have rust you won't find in a diesel tank, so if it's an older tank, 10-15 years old, then I'd pass for sure..... JMO.

I may go take a look at the tank if he still has it on Thursday. Tank was made in '06. So it is not too old.

a little gas in the diesel will not hurt anything, 5 gallons in with the diesel will not cause a problem. volkswagon would allow 20% in winter use in there p pump rabbit. the cr should never see 5%

The RDS tanks work very well. I've used several, and even have two installed in my own trucks... . A 45gal in my '03, and a 60gal on my '97, using the 6 port fuel switch. When they get low, you have to be careful and not drive at high angles, though, as the fuel will move away from the suction port... .....



I might even know where one was installed in a '95 Ford gas truck as the middle tank option after the frame was cut down... . I hear it works well... ... They even provide a vacuum line on the tank, so I hear..... It's listed that the RDS tanks are not approved for gasoline use, though.

RDS 60 gal fuel/tool combo

I have been looking at the 60 gal fuel/tool combo as it has a locked lid that covers the fuel fill and also be plumbed into the factory fuel system. Much cheaper and easier than going with an AERO tank.

The last 60gal I bought had a taller tool box, too. It was tall enough a small 8ton bottle jack would stand up in the corner... ... then I could install a 12v air compressor, as well, then throw all my crap in there. Jumper cables, bow saw, winch controller and doubler pulley, some grease and gun, trailer plug adapters, small armoured vehicles, and one or two refrigerators.



It didn't have the covered fuel fill, though. I just use a locking fuel cap and go on. There's usually so much other crap to worry about, the fuel isn't the most expensive thing on the bed. I've been considering adding a fuel pump to off load fuel on it, but I usually have a tank on my trailer... . 90gals will only get me to lunch on the big tractors, so the trailer is a necessity..... The new covered pump and fill tanks look nice. I'll probably use one of them the next go around. I've been really happy with all of mine, though. The only complaint I've had from customers is they forget to switch it to the main tank and park on a hill when it's low..... then they run out of fuel and have to reprime the system. Not my fault, but they want me to fix it.....
