I like it! :) Brilliant! A tech session of a different sorts! Its called how to make gen 2 parts fit on a gen . 5. ;)

Hey!! That would make a great Friday night Get together!! Get-together-and-wrench..... weld... . cut... . whatever... . I'm sure you're paint man can cover it up!!! :D

Well, today was first engine start. And it ended in failure.

Everytjing was set up, the people were here, and everything was prepped. So the moment came..... and went... . no fuel. :(

FASS does not create suction to pump fuel from tank, and the lift pump is leaking like a Chevy. Apparently the O rings have dried up over the last 8 years. :(

Just not a good day... . :(

That sucks , did you install a fuel tank sump ? and do you think there really needed in a more stock application ?

No, it doesnt suck. Thats the problem! :-laf :D

Ummm, not so stock anymore DV. LOL Might want to refer to the engine build page of this thread! :-laf But yes, needed in this case. And no. Not in tank.

I'm on a punchy role today..... must be lack of sleep. ;)

No, i was asking if a basicly stock gen 2 /slightly modified gen 2 needs a fuel sump set up and if you installed one

No. The factory lift pumps in 12Vs (second gens) are actually fairly meaty and reliable. Unless getting into some decent power (450+) I would not think a need to add a secondary like a FASS. In my case yet I added a FASS.

Bschwarzli: did you remember to add fuel? Likley forgot to tighten up the fuel lines? Those are also causes of no start situations.

That would be a one of a kind thing to have: everyone at TDR event and Cummins signing your tailgate with a sharpie. Then clear coat over it and make it permanent. Be one of a kind.

Yes, I remembered those! LOL

Also, anyone who may have a NV5600 shift knob insert kicking around in good condition that they don't want, please let me know! No longer available from Mopar and I need one for the crew! LOL

Shad, waiting for your answer here as you have more parts than Chrysler. :-laf

Well I do have a "few" extra Cummins B parts as well as a few spare Dodge parts :) My buddy has a 90, a 91 & a 92 Ramcharger and 2 93 W350 Cummins powered work trucks. He got all my spare 1st gen body parts.

Actually I do not have a shifter knob insert... anymore. I sold all the NV5600 stuff when I installed the G56. It is installed in a 96 3500 now. If I come across one I will save it for you. I thought about using one of these: http://www.genosgarage.com/CUMMINS-C-POWER-SHIFT-KNOB-RED-89-12/productinfo/SHIFT_KN_R/ The mains reason I didn't is because my shift pattern in different from stock. I thought about putting a decal ( that's pronounced "dek all" up here not "dee kal" :-laf on the dash to indicate the shift pattern. My boss is originally from Louisiana so we joke about the different pronunciation of words all the time. Shad

I like the black Hurst style shifters..... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/huu-1630156

I've got some custom ones, too. I really like the blank billet aluminum from Omix-Ada... or was it Rugged Ridge?? I can't remember... .

Then there's the Ram's head in White Bronze..... :D

I'll look and see if I have a stock one somewhere... . I'm not sure what I've done with them... .

Dek-el..... Yeah, I know the term! :-laf

Well at least I checked with you this time before I did anything. Figures this would be the time you don't have said part! LOL :D

Yeah, I thought about doing ram heads, the ones in Shad's link... ... But what can I say. I just like the stock looking Dodge stuff! Heck, I even considered an Eaton style with the flip switch as I need a GV control input anyways but just doesnt look right in my head! :(

I've been following this build for a while (and on multiple forums it seems) and I have to say your truck is absolutely gorgeous. You do some amazing work and I can't wait to see the thing finished.

LOL Yes, it does get around! :D

Thanks for the kind words. I also cant wait to see it finished. Sadly, I have a feeling it wont be till July/August as things are progressing slower than anticipated due to some bugs but that is somewhat to be expected!

As for an update, the 12V lives!!! Bwaahahahahahaha! The engine saw life yesterday at 12:30 PM EST. :)

Didn't get to run long as it tried to run away but... ...

So stay tuned for a video on how to snuff out a Cummins. :D
