Well I installed one of these in my truck today, I was using a Jordan Ultima 2020. Well it tells me I have a brake wiring problem (No camper hooked up). I guess my question is where do I start? I figure the only wire it can check is the wire that activates the brakes from the controller to the plug in on the bumper. Am I right or full of bs (I've been known to be full of it before... )?? My thinking is to start with the blue wire that goes from the controller to the plug at the bumper. Any thoughts?

You probably don't have a problem - - will read wiring trouble until you plug in the trailer - now if the trouble signal stays on when the trailer is plugged in - -you do have a problem - - I'll bet it will sraighten out when you hook up the trailer- - - I've had my BrakeMax for 5 years now and there is never been a better controller since the old Kelsey-Hays was taken away from us by the new fed law.

Sounds like that's what I need to do, hook up to the camper. Maybe I'm reading "TOO" much from the instruction manual...

Your title says "Brakemax" Do you have a Brake Smart or a Max Brake???

If you have a Max Brake and are having trouble, give me a call at 941-416-0918 10 am to 10 pm 7 days a week and we'll try to help you out. Di

It will show there is a problem till you plug the trailer in. These units are great I think the owner of Max brake should rework the product a bit . Display sucks if you aren't looking at it straight on , exterior needs to be reworked , silver is an ugly color , rewrite the firmware so you don't have the message come up on the screen when it's not plugged in. Great unit Di you want to relay to the owner? thanks

It is a Max Brake, I bought it from you guys. I think I "over read" the manual for it. I am getting a message that I have a brake wiring problem. So from what I read, I guess this is a normal message until I hook up the camper.

You should get a message that says:

Check trailer wiring OR Check trailer sensor wiring/cable when it is unhooked. That is normal but if it says you "have a brake wiring problem" you need to get in touch with me.

I would like you to check that message for wording # 1 and if is is reading as I stated above then plug in to the trailer and it should go away.

I'm here if you need me. Di

Hi Dutch & Di. The message I get is "Check trailer wiring". As I said earlier, I think I over read the manual...

That display "check trailer wiring" is alerting you to a potential problem but most of the time, it just means that the trailer is not plugged into the truck. There is a reference to this on page 12 of the owners manual but sometimes the thing we are looking hardest for is the one we cannot find. At least that is how it works for me. You or anyone can always feel free to contact me directly with questions and I'll do my best to help. If I can't we can then go to Max Brake. Di

It is a normal reading until it goes to sleep. Don't touch the lever, ( manual control), and it will sleep.
I have one and it is by far the best controller I have ever had. You will love it.

If it is as good as my Jordan Ultima was, it will be a good controller. But it looks like it does a lot more than it did.
