What I get for not hanging out here much anymore. Just bought a dodge charger. I probably would have waited and got one of these. But the Charger sure is fun:D

I don't know, that motor is just not a Cummins. I'm sure there were ways to stuff a smaller Cummins in that 1500 and it would have been much more appealing to me. That would have been a perfect truck for the wife. She is still driving her 99 1500 Sport Regular Cab SB 318 in like new condition with oem paint still on it. I made that toper on the back in 1998 when we special ordered the truck from Dodge. Nothing ever breaks on it and it keeps going and going. . . . In 02 we bought my Dodge 2500 Quad Cab SB for the Cummins, as I did in 2000 when I purchased my 3500 QC LB. And there are/were so many people who made that same choice for the same reason. I am not interested in driving those high revving, cheaply made "eco diesels" like brands F and C. I want a real truck with a real diesel IMO.

What a bummer, you can't get the Magnum 318 anymore, I had that motor in my 92 Dodge Dakota, what a great little engine. I also had a 71 D100 with a 318, I bought it for $200 in 1982, beat the crap out of it in the red zone of Mt Saint Helens Wa, after she blew her top, and sold it for $200. That truck by the way is what sold me on Dodge trucks, not that I didn't already like Mopar. My dad bought a 73 Duster with a 318, I also had a chance to buy Dodge Demon with a three speed manual, but I was only seventeen at the time and no money. I had to drive it out of the shop every morning, when I was learning how to turn a wrench. It was from the factory with a HO 360, what a screamer. The sad part about the 318 is, it was the last of the great V8's that were produced by the big three.

You mean diesels like the V6 in the LeMans-winning Audi R18?

Despite the capacity reduction, the 3. 7L V6 is claimed to develop more than 397 kilowatts (532 bhp) of power. This is less than the outgoing R15, but the V6 engine's fuel consumption will more than likely be lower than that of the outgoing V10 engine on the R15. The new engine has a single Garrett TR30R VGT turbocharger, as opposed to the twin TR30R configuration of both the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP and the previous Audi R15 TDI. [1] The R18's V6 engine exhausts inwards between the cylinder banks, where the turbocharger is placed. This is called a 'hot side inside' configuration and is opposed to the traditional configuration with each cylinder bank of a V engine exhausting outwards to their respective turbochargers.

Times and technology are changing... .

Yup!! And all 1st and 2nd Gen owners should've just bought a gasser or a car instead... After all, the HP and TQ #'s for a bone stock Cummins diesel (VE, P7100, or ISB) didn't exceed these #'s until 1999 when they were bumped up to a whopping 235 horsepower (175 kW) and 460 pound-feet (624 N·m).

It has the power to pull heavy, but will lack suspension capacity to handle extreme weights. It's gonna be a winner for people who just want to commute to work daily while benefiting from good MPG and still be able to hook up to a LIGHT TT to enjoy a weekend camping.

Has anyone seen the torque/power curves? I think the small diesel will be good in moderate towing, but peak torque @ 2000rpm is quite a bit different than our Cummins with peak torque @ 1600rpm or lower. Like you touched on in your post the 1/2-ton almost surely lacks the suspension/brakes/driveline/cooling to safely handle heavier trailers. I have high hopes that this combo will provide the reliability, fuel economy, and balanced capability that people have been seeking in a half-ton truck.

I'm kind of excited to see it. I wonder what the fuel economy will be like vs the Hemi. You'd think all of the emissions requirements would make it a wash, but I guess we'll see.

The Titan is a distant fifth in the latest issue of CU's test of pickups. Nissan is going to need a whole new platform to be competitive with the big three.

Talked to a gal that has the Diesel 8 speed option in her Grand Cherokee. Has 88,000 miles on it and 0 problems, long trips in the 23-26mpg range.

I hope that's motoring along at 75+, I would expect better than that. I believe that is a Daimler engine but hopefully the Ram 1500 with the VM will consistently get that or better on the highway at reasonable speeds. My 2wd 24V consistently turns 22-23 MPG on the highway running 72-75mph and there would have to be enough difference to justify upgrading.

Dude you need to slow down! Better mileage if you go slower!

A friend of mine works on the Ram Brand for Chrysler, He is a engineer (one of many) but has good info. The new VM motor should get around 27mpg but there not publishing quit yet, because there still working out a couple of minor issues. There expecting a January Launch! or late winter. But there coming!!!! I want one!!!!

Major dealerships have told me they are not sure of a release date yet!

So it's a 3. 0 liter V6 Turbo diesel mated to the 8 spd Auto transmission, 3. 55 or 3. 92 gear option. Will have to see out it shakes out in the long run.

Just perused the latest issue of CU, and the Titan is dead last in predicted reliability, with a figure of 90% below average. They're going to need more than the Cummins engine to fix that. The "Built Ford Tough" Ford's are rated only a little better.
