Can someone tell me which issue contained the story of Sickly? Is there a search method to find specific articles or subjects in the digital magazine?

WOW!! That's a long way back! I don't know of a search for the digital editions of the magazine and I don't remember approximately the year when that article appeared. Do you remember approximately what year? If you can give me an approximate year, I'll "dig" through my TDR "Library" :)

Send Joe D a PM, maybe he can shed some light on it.

It was shortly after I joined. If no one knows off hand I'll dig through my stack of books. I was hoping there was a search method:( Thanks.

There was no single article on Sickly, so named because a couple weeks after adding power, it always seemed weak, even Sickly once again. There were articles on things like 19 steps to a Sickly Ram (Issue 37, p. 14), and more recently, Sickly's new owner (for 9 years now) added BD twin turbos.

Thanks Joe, issue 37 is what I was looking for, the fourth one after I joined. Consequently I saw that the first issue I had received (33) had a story about a million mile truck:D

You are welcome. BTW, another reason for the name was to give a counterpoint to all the trucks that were named "big, bad" and other names connoting huge power. Then poor ol' Sickly spanked them on the dyno every time, using diesel fuel only, and a single turbo. I have the video from 2001 when three guys (one was the legendary Piers) pretended to push it up onto the roller (I had it in creeper) because it was too weak and sickly to make it onto the dyno by itself. That was the time it made 609 HP and the next highest was about 500.

Yep, there were some funny stories about Sickly. IIRC, you coined the word "overvalved" when the 24-valve engines were introduced. :-laf

Yes, and Nowel (HVAC on this forum) called the ideally valved 12-valves "undervalved" in response. Today, I maintain that I have a 12 valve, that is 12 intakes and 12 exhausts... hehe

Do you remember the "post wars" when proponents of each worked to keep the post count of that subforum ahead of the other? Finally, TDR shut down the war as bandwidth was getting excessive (in their opinion!).

Joe, I doubt that you remember, but the you performed the first mod on my truck back in late '01, a #11 plate. I was visiting LV and you did the job in your garage in Henderson. I didn't even have gauges yet, the plate was a whim. I have learned a lot since then.

Yep, I sure do. :-laf :-laf We had a lot of fun back then.

My wife and I met HVAC and some of the other "illustrious" members in that group at a May Madness Rally we attended years ago. :D

Joe,

Do you remember at a Texas TDR Rally after you installed injectors in someone's truck and Piers quietly crawled under the truck and banged on the block with a hammer when the truck was started?:-laf

I was there. I believe that was Harvey's truck.

I think he bange on the oil pan--that is how to make the most fear-inducing noise! Do you remember the Tulare show whn he locked the rent-a-cop out of the gate? How about the injector and turbo installations going until 3-4 AM?

I remember it made quite a noise and all of us standing around bent over double we were laughing so hard. :-laf I still laugh just thinking about it.

I missed the Tulare show and didn't know/remember Piers locking out a rent-a-cop,:-laf but I'm not surprised... that guy is crazy/funny. :-laf Has he slowed down any? Yep, turbo and injector installations going on until 3-4 AM isn't surprising... that was SOP at a CTD get-together. :D
