Are the Gas Charged hood supports affected by cold? This is the second pair that have been installed in a 4 year period. 1st pair were Monroe 2ond were SACHS.

:D

They seem to need a little help when it's really cold, then bounce back in the spring. When they don't bounce back it is time to change them out.

Gizmo's trunk strut has given up this winter but that acts more like the packing inside has piled up. I have to force it open and force it closed with no change on a warm day. I feel that is is safe to condemn that one.:D

Mike.:)

They open just like normal and hold for a bit and then come crashing down on my melon, that hood latch hurts let me tell ya.

I'd say you have one of the two that has failed. My '06 still has the factory struts, maybe in this case it would be worth getting the Mopar replacements where you have tried some aftermarket ones already??

Mike.

You can always order online from one of the Mopar Parts discounters...also, I have read that the struts from newer 4th gen trucks DO fit the older trucks and cost substantially less.
On another forum, more then several people have been using the newer struts with no problems for at least a couple years.
Here are the Mopar part#'s--

4th gen hood strut #55372200AA

3rd gen hood strut #55276321AC

Thanks I would't want anyone to see me going into a Stealership, they might think something that's not true

Yeah, they fit fine. I got mine from one of the discounters.
The shop I use gets Autozone specials for $18.00 ea. I don't know how well they hold up.

I hate those strut thing a ma bobs. What ever happened to springs. Anything I ever had with those struts seemed like a constant problem. I never had to buy a new hood spring. Guess I just do not like change :D

You answered your own question within your post!! they put the thing-a-ma-bobs in so you could buy more of them and support some 3rd world country. The springs NEVER Had to be messed with except for a little dab of white grease on the ends of the springs

I get my OEM parts from http://www.partswebsite.com/pollardmopar/index.php?type=parts&start=1&home=1

There are other sites that use the same backend service: http://www.partswebsite.com

OEM parts at much less cost than the dealer. The "estimated" shipping cost can be scary but the actual shipping cost has always been less for me. The catalog doesn't show all the parts available, sometimes you have to search by part number (with no leading zeros if there are any).

I have saved hundreds of dollars vs going to the dealer for my truck and Jeep parts.

I was wondering if a stick strut would show up, didn't take long. Only other suggestion about them is orientation this end up sorta stuff, do not scratch the piston rod, and for the first compression, don't get gung ho and slam it down, pull the hood down gently the first time. And BIG it might help if you remove that 100 lb Elk rack off of the front of your hood too.
