I'm the one with the shallow bladder. Of course it's a lots easier for a man to slip around the side of the truck. My grandfather always said that it's the difference between a pointer and a setter. What was on that cheese sandwich, was it skillet fried in butter? Jennifer's curiousity needs to know.

As luck would have it we had a catered lunch here at work today. Try to do one for the crew every couple months or so. Today it was handled by our local "Mo's BBQ" and was an excellent meal, the pulled pork and smoked turkey were perfect.

I told the owner of the BBQ joint about the sandwich that you described above. He is somewhat familiar with Nashville and wondered if I could find out where you got it.

He was heading back to the restaurant to see if he could whip one up, I wrote the description dwon for him.

Mike.

Ok. About 6 months ago, I stumbled onto a pulled pork recipe. All you need is a crock pot, 3lb boneless pork (Costco has great stuff) 1cup of ketchup, 12 can of regular plain cola, any brand. Put it all in the crock pot on low for as long as possible- 6-8 hours. Help it break up by jabbing with a fork a few times after 3-4 hours in.
This makes a great base. Then add your own fav sauce as it's served. Get some nice kaiser folks at the bakery or bake em at the same time... BAM!!!

That sounds really good.

I meant Kaiser ROLLS.... There's a supermarket chain based out of Rochester NY called "Wegman's". They have a variety of BBQ sauces. All good. JD sauce is good too, but I'm sure someone has home brew recipe.

Ya had me thinkin there for a second ED ya went from the pointer and setter thing, and jumped to the cheese sandwich????? thought for just a second NEVER TRIED THAT BEFORE!!! and IM PRETTY WEIRD

All the fixin's that went on the sandwich were ready, the bread was lathered with butter and put on the grill with a weighted plate with a handle on it to hold it down to the grill. They then plated the bread when toasted and built the sandwich on that. Penny got the contents for the bread we had never heard of buttermilk bread before or toast in this case.

Hah! I should have had two paragraphs there.

Home-made bread! Now that's a topic for a thread. Jennifer made some French bread last night and then served it hot, right out of the oven with a big bowl of her world famous potato soup (diced potatoes, diced ham, beef stock, onions, red cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper and cream cheese; garnish with grated cheddar cheese and chives). A glass of merlot was the coup de gras. I thought I had died and gone to heaven!

BIG, I nearly forgot. The other night she made fried corn pones that would serve to ransom a king. If Penny wants the receipt let me know and I will post it.

Send it!! Penny is always looking for different things from all over the country to try. During the cold months we have soup for a noon meal to warm up the insides, I call it a soup but its a full course meal in a bowl.

Its been some time since we have had anything bread, biscuits, pasta and anything baked like sweet breakfast goodies on our home table that I don't grind the the grain for and Penny gets a workout making.

JENNIFER'S RECEIPT FOR FRIED CORN PONES

2 cups white cornmeal
1/4 t. baking powder
1 1/4 t. salt
1 t. sugar
1/4 cup Half-n-Half
1 t. vegetable oil
1-2 cups of boiling water
vegetable oil for frying
Butter while hot

Mix first 4 ingredients together. Mix in Half-n-Half. Add water to batter until consistency
of grits. Add 1/2 inch oil to skillet, spoon in batter, and fry on medium heat. Brown and
drain on paper towel. Butter while hot. Enjoy!

Jennifer says they will make the skinny fat, and the fat good lookin'.

BIG, if Penny has trouble finding baking powder, substitute self-rising corn meal.

Ed

Thanks ED I need some fat on my bones so the Dr. says, but what do they know sitting at a desk or using a latex glove and KY jelly to do his job?

Penny said those sound good, Thank You!!!

Mmmmm. Thanks. My daughter is learning to cook.

What EVER you do, even if its something that the dog turns his nose to, YOU EAT IT WITH A SMILE AND ASK FOR MORE!!! its part of being a Dad :D

Nora still remembers some of the things she attempted to cook that SHE WOULDN'T eat, but Daddy-O did with a smile. ;)

Wayne, those fried corn pones go real good with the potato soup. (Shucks, they go good with anything!) Tell her to saute' the onions with the diced ham before adding to the beef stock, diced potatoes, etc. Jennifer and I rate this concoction above her Cuban Bean Soup, cabbage soup or her world-famous chicken stew.

Sounds like a plan. Only I will be doing the saute'n. She's barely 11. :-laf

BIG, you're on the money with that. Actually, she's pretty good. Sews too, fixed my pocket with the sew machine she got from Grandma this Christmas. Priceless. Pink thread on blue sweatpants.

Yelp, there's a BBQ zone in the South and Nashville is definitely in the Zone, oldest son lives there and I enjoy every visit. The center of the BBQ zone is eastern Arkansas (little town of Marvell, Shaddens Grocery is actually the center, this is where Levon Helms (the Band) grew up)and of course Memphis has many worthy entry's in the Bar-B-Que Hall of Fame with the Rendezvous being one lot's of folks recognize.

I would be content to just being able to get out of the driveway and getting to the grocery store, which isn't open. The winter storm dumped snow all over this place. I wish Al Gore's butt was available to kick, global warming and all that rot!

A good pot of Texas chili would be my choice for an activity this morning, accompanied with a cold beer to control the heat.

Having the Native American equivalent of Haggis tonight. Couldn't get it down for a long time, then I got over the ingredients and tried it, have been hooked since!!

Ouch! Being of Scottish descent, I don't think I want to know. When I got old enough to read and figured out what was in tripe, scrabble, sous meat, etc. I switched over to cornflakes. It actually tasted pretty good I think but it was the thought of it all.
