A dealer here in Fort Worth told me the earliest date for orders is March so far. There are supposed to be what dealers call spec trucks about one thousand or so that will be coming out pretty soon. I did drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same engine and transmission, I really liked it. I may go drive another one this weekend to test it out some more.

Check out the last TDR magazine, Its covered in there. Been in the news for almost a year, and finally its a reality.

I must admit that I'm a little nervous about this engine. It was supposed to be available last August from initial reports and every month I stop and check in with the dealer for an update. Every visit is the same, "still not ready, still working on it" is what I keep hearing. Is the emissions system so different from the Jeep that this could be the cause for delays or something else?

According to Allpar the delays have been due to the emission controls also they claim it may also be the facility where the engine is built. It seems VM Motori needs to expand their plant to handle the added demand between the Grand Cherokee and the Ram. They could have delayed everything to give VM Motori a chance to get ahead of the game, who knows. The engine itself has been in production for a while. Working for UPRR I deal with the GM plant in Arlington TX everyday and they have a normal shutdown for about a month to month and a half starting at Christmas time. I am thinking that maybe the Ram plant may have done the same and it takes a while to get everything geared up. Ram may be trying to hype it up too.

I know it's not something that is affecting only Chrysler as the GM dealership in my town has been telling me the same things about the Chevy Cruze Diesel that is supposed to be out already also. Something has to give sooner or later.

Right now only people who can and have ordered the Ram 1500 Diesel live north of our border in Canada, I have a friend who has order an Outdoorsman truck and dealer said 8 weeks before delivery.

Slightly off topic but Diesel Power Magazine has a side by side test comparison of the 1500 Ram Eco-Diesel and the 2500 Cummins Ram trucks, in the March 2014 issue. I would think they where furnished with the trucks in OCT/Nov or so in order to make the March printing and I have had the magazine since mid January. This is a very good write on the trucks.

Production prototypes must be available as there are quite a number of road tests beginning to show up in magazines and on the Internet.

Totally off topic but I have had a Cruze diesel since November. Awesome fuel mileage! Trip to Nashville and back (4,300 miles) at 75mph with the car loaded down netted a hand calculated 46 mpg. Now with the winter fuel I'm still getting 38 driving over a mountain pass to work everyday.

I just found out there are a couple of these cars on the lot down in Anchorage that just arrived. I suppose Alaska is the back burner so to speak when it comes to new things, hopefully this new ram will show up before spring gets here. I want somebody else to work out all the cold temp issues before I buy one!

I went to Ramtrucks.com tonight and it lets you pick it when you build it online. For instance if you pick the SLT Crew cab the EcoDiesel option is $2850 over the Hemi.

Also this week in the news the EPA fuel economy rating came out on it this week, for the 2wd it's 28/20 Hwy/City, didn't see numbers for 4wd.

The 4wd numbers have been anywhere from 28 and up on the highway.
My order was placed today. Lonestar crewcab, 6.6 bed Prairie Pearl Coat 4 wheel drive.
beige interior, bucket seats, 9 speaker upgrade, air ride suspension. 3.55 anti spin, u connect with nav.

Same as I ordered (even the colors) except mine is a Laramie. What is your order status? I'm still in "D" (production scheduled) without an estimated build date.

Still in status " D " with no idea when the build date is. They said customer orders were a priority over everything even dealer stock orders, yeah right. I did find Chrysler Communications on Facebook of all places. I vented a little about my order still not being assembled since placing the order on the 7th and I asked about the quote " customer orders will take priority over everyone. " Surprisingly they responded asking for my information and that they would look into it what is going on with my order. I gave them the info they asked for guess we shall see what happens. I might have kept my mouth shut but, when I saw the articles about the trucks being shipped I just had to vent. If you have Facebook look them up and see what happens, afterall they made the statement.
