So my truck has been pretty flawless and no real issues but for the last month or so, the radio loses all it's presets and constantly goes to 530 am whenever the truck is started. Also, whenever I set a destination in the gps, it will now lose it if I make a pit stop and shut the truck off. Two weeks ago, I took the truck in and they updated all the tsb's and recalls but when I got it home, it still does the same thing.
Yesterday, went on a 6 hour trip by myself and the truck was unloaded. I had to hold the passenger seat to keep it from vibrating loose. The stock Generals are definitely pieces of........ Yes, I have played with air pressures up and down trying to find a sweet spot. There is none. I refuse to pay someone else to try and road force balance new tires from the factory. I took the truck back to the dealer and explained to them the non fixed radio and asked them to take a ride in my truck on the smoothest toad they can find and watch the passenger seat. I showed them a few threads about this common issue and what I posted about it a month after my purchase so they know I wasn't trying to get something for free. I explained that I found this completely unacceptable on a new $20,000 vehicle, much less on a $65,000 vehicle.
The truck will stay with them for a couple of days, hopefully these things can be resolved. I will keep all posted.

yeah, quickly learing the generals are turds. has anyone swapped the tires out and did it fix the vibrations?

Many have switched to a higher quality tire with no change.

724 miles on my truck as of today. As I have said before in other threads and sites, my truck has a vibration issue. 61mph and higher and my truck has a Chassis/floorboard/seat vibration that anyone would notice and know something is not correct. Just watch the passenger seat or a water bottle in a cup holder!!

After reading about many Vibration issues I am now doubting that mine is tire related. Makes me nervous to take my truck to Rickson Wheel to have Dan balance my assemblies properly, but better to pay out of my pocket to know it is done correctly and take the tires/wheels out of my situation.

My vibration is not minor, as in something I would "live" with. It is annoying on the highway and not at all how a 60k truck is designed to ride.:mad:

Generals are fine, I have 6 of the of the factory balanced Ameritracs. My 3500 rides smooth as glass, but that doesn't prevent the PS seat from the shakes. It's the design
of the seat frame, set the seat all the way forward and you'll see the shake go away. Don't waste your time complaining, it's still a Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Fiat.

I have found that a half full jug of water sitting on the passenger side floor will tell you if you have balance or other vibration problems.

I've owned 4 2014 Dodge 1500's, a 2014 3500 and now a 2014 2500 Laramie crew cab, diesel. One of the 1500's, the 3500 and now the 2500's radio's worked the first day I had the trucks. Took them back to the dealer who updated the software to no avail. These radio's, once all set up the way I want them, including the NAV system just go to heck with no prior warning. Once they do that it is a total waste of time trying to re-set them. The fight is on with Chrysler.

You are lucky to have a truck that is "smooth as glass", but in my case I am using he passenger seat as a example. Anything on the rear seats will vibrate also. Bottle of water in cup holder shakes a lot! You just do not have the issue that many of us seem to have. I will also be damned of my 60k truck if ever rides "smooth as glass" and anything seat or not is shaking , they will be hearing from me.

I ran the POC Generals Ameritrac for 52K miles and started losing them to thread separation, the tires were just about worn to the wear bars, but should not have separated the thread. I installed my preferred Michelin MS 2 tires, and the truck handled much better and ran smother. The dealer refused to install the Michelins, and the factory would not allow me to order my C&C with the Michelins when I ordered and bought my 2007 C&C.

BTW, I have a free General that I used as a spare and only have 500 miles driven on.

k.. yours has an Aisin, 4:10 geared and shakes, mine is Aisin 3:42 and shakes, rrl989 has Aisin 3:73 and doesnt shake.. hhmm.. All running generals.
How about air pressures? What air pressures are you running in the rears? I am not experiencing any front end shake, only seems to come from the rear. My fronts are at/near 90 when at operating temp but the backs vary between 65-72.

At 65 pounds inflation with 4 LT235/80R17E you have 9880 pounds of capacity on the rear axle of a dually. At 40 pounds inflation you still have 6280 capacity on the rear axle of a dually. Has anyone tried to lower inflation when not loaded????

Chris

To low of inflation pressure, and you will destroy the side walls, like I did on my 94 2500 gasser by running to low of pressure on my Goodyear Wranglers.

I run 80psi in my front tires bc at the max PSI they are just about over loaded with my truck empty.
I run 70 in the rear bc I pull a 48' Living Quarters trailer that is heavy with a healthy pin weight.

Tire pressure should not have to be changed when empty to achieve a Vibration free ride! #@$%!

I have 3:73's with the Aisin & mine had/has the shakes. They supposedly balanced the rears & it helped, but I still have some seat vibration around 70 mph.

If SRW trucks need the rears deflated for decent ride and handling, then why should not the same apply to DRW trucks? Chris

Once I get a chance to drive our new truck across a set of scales to find out the weight on each axle when loaded (and towing in our case), I fully intend to adjust the tire air pressures for the actual loads... not the max as listed on the door placard. Since tire inflation data wasn't provided in the owner's packet like it was with my 2001, I searched online and found the figures below on the Ram Body Builder website.

This applies to LT235/80R17 tires as used on my dually...

Single (front)

35 psi = 1,725 lbs
45 psi = 2,055 lbs
55 psi = 2,405 lbs
65 psi = 2,680 lbs
75 psi = 2,950 lbs
80 psi = 3,085 lbs

Duals (rear)

35 psi = 1,570 lbs
45 psi = 1,870 lbs
55 psi = 2,190 lbs
65 psi = 2,470 lbs
75 psi = 2,685 lbs
80 psi = 2,835 lbs

Best regards,

John L.

I had some vibration with my 2012 with the stock wheels, I switched up to 285 Cooper Discover's had the Vibration. It would only show up at 68 or faster. It ended up being a bad tire the inner side of the tire was out of round. When you spun the tire the outer side would stay the same distance from the axel the inner side would hop up and down. Was egg shaped. I now have a 2013 ram it came with the steel wheels which I hated. Found a set of Ram Aluminum and installed a set of Firestone Destinations on them. I'm very happy with them, smooth all the way up to 80 and are quiet. They really impressed me in the snow for a highway tread tire they always seemed to find something to grip.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

All of you other guys running the same wheels? Bad casting or stamp would do it. Balance all you want, you can't make an out of round wheel/rim not vibrate.

Only other thing I can think of is a dampener problem with the engine/drive train. Try running a lower gear at the same engine RPM.
