I keep reading about a dead pedal issue in some 2013 and 2014 trucks. A neighbor of mine has an 14 and he too complains about it. So much that he bought something from BD Power that supposedly cures the dead pedal issue.

I'm also reading that some are starting to file complaints with NHTSA as the owners are considering this a safety issue while driving.

Had it happen to me twice if I am interpreting the dead pedal statement. Twice I've mashed on the pedal to get out of the way from a stop and went no where for a moment plus 2. Scared me because both times I really wanted to get moving in a hurry. The rest of the time I drive very conservatively and it's never been an issue.

I'm guessing it's a program issue since these are drive by wire accelerators. Anther probability is the Aisin transmission since most owners with the dead pedal have the particular auto.

They have been drive by wire since 98.5 When they went away from mechanical injection. I imagine it is likely the torque management that is causing the delay, and the BD tuner is cancelling the torque management. Smarty has the ability to do the same thing and is noticeable when I plug it into my truck, and I'm at the "weak" 6oo ft lb mark :-laf
I imagine the effects are multiplied when your talking 850 ft lbs of torque.

Light off 850 ft pounds of torque at a dead stop and you will either be in a cloud of tire smoke or break something!!!! SNOKING

A lot of us have been "lighting off" MORE than 850 tq for years and never broke anything, unfortunately it would generally cause a cloud of diesel smoke. I'd bet the "torque management" has more to do with emissions than it does actual torque management. The drivetrains are stronger than they have ever been, yet the "go from a stop" is the worst it's ever been.

The dead pedal is definitely worse in my Aisin truck, a few times it has been dangerous when you expect the truck to go and it just sits there. Sure the answer is to drive less aggressively, if that was the case there are some intersections in California I would still be sitting at.

Chrysler needs to do something!

It happens occasionally on my 2014 2500 and it does not have the Aisin trans. It can be aggravating but since I live in a relatively small town with no real traffic problems, I can deal with it. I wouldn't mind if Chrysler came out with a flash to get rid of it though.

Just filed my complaint on this issue. Thanks for the corrected link JHawes.

Chrysler needs to address this before I or someone else is in an accident or killed because we have to take risks when driving these trucks. I live and drive on mainly two lane roads and had this issue passing vehicles and accelerating from a stop just yesterday. I had to give the truck an additional two seconds to react and I usually drop back slightly due to the great acceleration when I finally get power. I really would like to apply less pedal to pass but I need to floor it to get around in time to avoid a collision. I knew the lag was there when I bought the truck but wrongly thought there would be a fix for it before now. What a bunch of **** we have to contend with these days to get a reaction from the factory.

Hopefully the issue will get resolved soon. Other than a few test drives, I have very little experience with the 2014 Ram diesel. It has tons of power over my 04.5 but there is a definite issue with the throttle response at certain times.

My old 92 and 2001 and my current 04 have lag but the 2014 has a full blown dead spot. So much that I've put off buying one even with the incredible discounts available now.

I'll be patient for the time being and see what the 2015 trucks have to offer.

I have the same problem with my 2012. Very rare from a dead stop, mine is going down the road cruising, then go to
pass someone and nothing. Pump the peddle and still nothing. Well now I pull back in line and wait for another try,
hoping it will go. That is a real safety issue. EB on or not, it sounds as if it is. It just goes BLAH. Had this issue,
dealer has replaced pedal assy., ECM, EGR, still no improvement. Getting worse as miles moving up.
Got 126,000 on it now, but did the throttle valve delete, just need to drive it now. Been parked for
two weeks. And as always dealer could not find the problem, no codes, just throwing parts at it.
Going on a 3,000 mile trip next week, keep you all posted.

You are the first I've heard of a 2012 having this problem. Hope you have a great trip.

I know that my 2011 if you are rolling up a onramp pulling my 5er trying to merge with traffic and have it mashed to the floor it will not downshift to the proper gear. Also a lot of times you cant make it shift down with the manual either.

The throttle response is pretty poor on mine, bit it does pull well.

Same issue - 2013 3500 AISIN. Dealer claims it's totally because of emissions (I believe them). They can't let it throttle up like they used to because there'd be a poof of smoke. If we want it changed it has to come from the EPA.

Go to www.safercar.gov and file a complaint!!!!! I may want to buy one in a year or so, so help get the issue fixed by filing a complaint.

For whatever reason, my wife claims this happens to her quite a bit when driving my truck. Different driving styles I suppose.

Is this device detectable by Chrysler?

From what I've read, no. It has 3 settings and most people are using the middle setting. On 3, it makes the throttle too sensitive and breaks the tires loose. This box was on backorder the last I checked as people couldn't get it fast enough.
