This is a follow-up to an earlier post HERE about the center switch stack located below the Uconnect screen intermittently being non-responsive (dead) after starting our truck. I'm guessing this is happening about once in every 10 or so starts.

When this first started happened back in May, I quickly discovered simply driving the truck to 15 mph caused the switch stack to start working normally again. Coincidentally, that's the speed at which the doors automatically lock since I have that feature enabled in the Uconnect settings.

I've recently had the truck to a dealer for other work and asked them to specifically look into this dead switch stack problem. Of course they couldn't find anything wrong, and of course it wasn't doing it while there.

Recently I've discovered that when this problem is present, all I have to do is activate the door lock button and the switch stack immediately starts working! So it seems as though locking the doors "wakes up" or "un-sticks" something contributing to this.

John L.

Interesting..........Good to know. I only have had this condition once since the original thread back in May....yesterday, the switches remained out until I stopped at the grocery store for a couple of minutes yesterday, and when I came out, and the truck had gone back to sleep as Sag2 had mentioned in the other thread, and the switches were fine. I will try the doorlock trick next time it happens to see if that works for me since I have my auto door locks turn off.

Thanks for the heads up!

Identical issue with mine. Usually it comes back on when the door locks activate.. No ryme or reason.

I wish Chrysler had some way of submitting a formal "bug report" online. I'm not real comfortable these kind of details get percolated up to the right people within Chrysler when a dealer can't find anything wrong. I was told by my local dealer they "noted" it in the system, but is someone at Chrysler still made aware of it so they know there might be a widespread problem?

I wonder if I should call Ram customer service and tell them?

Actually, now that I think about it, I already have tried your way......... it must work.........When I stopped at the store, I got out, and hit the lock button on the arm rest and shut the door. (had not seen your thread yet) Came out, unlocked the door and the switches were working. I thought it had reset itself per Sag2's description but since I locked the truck to go inside the store, no way to know which way reset the switches??:confused:

Well, there might be a solution........here's to hoping......went in for a free oil change and had them look into this for a second time, since the first time ended with a "could not duplicate the problem". This time I brought a cell phone video of the inoperative buttons being pushed and not working. Also, brought up the safety issue of me heading down Cajon Pass( a big one), with a 10,000 lb trailer, AND a set of dead buttons that prevent me from turning on the tow/haul and the exhaust brake.........

So we moved forward and their star system said to replace the switch panel for the fix, and got it done today........so like I said, here's to hopingOo.

Stay tuned......

I've had mine stop working as well. What I don't get it is how can it be possible that so many of us have the same problems with our trucks, yet Chrysler has "never heard of it before".

Didn't know about the door lock thing, I just shut mine off and restarted which didn't fix it, so I shut it off again and opened the door to kill the reserve power and it worked.

Sounds like they hired MS to write their software! And you guys are now the beta testers!

Actually, I am a little skeptical as to whether a new switch will solve the issue......we shall see. I think that Sag2's description of the problem sounds more likely the problem. I talked to the tech( a friend) about it and said the controller is certainly possible, but he said they have to follow the Star's repair procedures, which was the switch. They had the tech check a couple of ground wires first, then did the switch.

I read somewhere that when Fiat took over they wanted Chrysler to go to the MS operating system. Chrysler said no, too many bugs. It was said that Chrysler uses the BlackBerry operating system which is considered to be very reliable. Chrysler's system is the highest rated on the market.

Well, my skepticism appears to be correct:(:( Switches did not work at lunch today........argh.....Back to the drawing board.

I took my 2014 in for a check engine light and surging. Chrysler's response, "we are aware of the issues and are working on new software to fix these problems. The check engine light will probably come on again until we can apply new software."

Sigh
