2014 Ram 3500 Aisin.. Truck didnt used to do this, not sure whats going on. But, it surges pretty bad at light throttle low load. If I remote start it, let it warm up about 10 minutes, get in, back out of driveway, put it in gear and just light throttle driving it surges enough that you can feel it very pronounced. I drove it all the way into town one day with it happening, truck was fully warmed up by that time, still surging. Shut it down in town, got back in it about 30 min. later and surge is gone!
Next morning it was back. Same thing, drive it for about 30 minutes, shut it down and restart and its gone. Also, Im getting lots of UREA injection odor. I smell it really strong in the mornings along with an occasional strong EGR gas smell in the cab when driving down the highway.
There are no CELS, and have never been any. Truck has approx. 10K miles on it. I have NOT changed the fuel filters yet, but one would think if its fuel filters it would be happening all the time.
Ideas? I would take it to the dealership, but it will simply be one of those, "well their aint no check engine lights! We cant find anything wrong with it!"

I don't see any other choice but to work with a dealer and Chrysler to get this corrected. Their scan tools can monitor parameters and pick up faults which don't trigger a Malfunction Indicator Lamp.

Good luck,

John L.

I also get the surging/stumble at light throttle while putting around in parking lots etc. once in a while. This would be with a warm engine. I also notice it once in a while while leaving home with partially warmed engine form having run for 10-15 minutes. It only happens if I'm just feathering the throttle. I just give it more fuel to avoid it. I'm at 36,000 kms and it has been there all along. fuel filters have been changed twice during normal maintenance.

Thats what im really trying to avoid... This truck has spent almost 4 months in and out of the dealership service department and its not a year old yet. If I have to take it back again, I hope its in small non-repairable pieces!

yeah Im doing the same thing. I just dont ever remember it doing it when new! Something has changed.

So running down the highway Sunday morning between 85-90 mph... truck fully warmed up.... stand into the throttle to pass an idiot in the left lane playing on his phone and truck shudders HARD then immediately clears up, set CEL and gives me a message of SERVICE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. Stays active until I shut truck down along with CEL. Upon restart message is cleared from dash although CEL is still active.
When I got home, hooked up scanner and cleared CEL. Hasnt been back since but I havent driven the truck much either.

Why would you clear the code before diagnosing if you want to get it fixed??

I took pics of code and message before clearing. Wanted to see if it would come back and it did last night under pretty much the same conditions. Light throttle high speed cruising on interstate, went to 100% throttle command and immediately shuddered and set the same CEL and message. Once the code sets active, truck returns to performing normally.
Maby dealers have that idiot mentality of keeping your vehicle all day, simply clearing the code and sending it back out. I like to establish a timeline and pattern before I let the 'tards have my truck to work on.

When you cleared the codes you also dumped the freeze frame data that could have helped find the fault

I realize that... but I can duplicate code any time I want to now... well, unless there are cops around! Truck will set CEL every time i push it.

Resurrecting an old thread here. My 18 with Aisin has more of a pulse than a surge. Barely noticeable at light throttle, especially going up hills. Is this normal or not right? Truck has about 5K on it, mostly towing.

my 18 tradesman g56 does exactly what your truck does. up hills constant surging/miss. light throttle only. 9000 miles. done it since day one. afraid to take to dealer, because last time i took it in for clutch - truck was there 29 days. cheers!

I don't want to take it in either unless there is a real fix for it. I also have a shudder going from 1st to 2nd. Grrr.
