Arizona Speeding Ticket question

I've had similar experiences in court.
New rookie cop gave me a ticket.
Said rookie had stated EXACTLY what happened.
The judge was PUTTING the words he wanted to hear IN HIS MOUTH! Because the way the rookie remembered it (the way it happened).....I WAS innocent!
Like I said....it's all about the Benjamin's.

It isn't just small towns. Harris County (Houston) targets commercial drivers. I got a ticket for 71 in a 65 although I was only doing 67. I planned on fighting it, so went to court. Of course, the court house is on the other side of Houston from where I live, so I had to get a motel the night before to avoid morning traffic. Then it turns out that the first court appearance is a hearing, so if I want to plead not guilty I have to return at a later date. My choices were $108 and a 90 day probation, or plead not guilty and come back later and take my chances. If no more infractions in 90 days the ticket wouldn't appear on my DL. Clearly a $$$$$$ scam (99% of the people there were commercial drivers). I paid the money, now drive 5 mph below the speed limit in Houston and I have never spent another dollar since then in Harris county.

I have to complement the CHP here. Driving south on Hwy 395 and I 15 also the cops left the commercial rigs alone as long as they didn't exceed 65-70 mph which is generous.
What they had a field day with was ricers and newer muscle cars. They were driving Dodge Hemi regcabs with cab hi shells and working in teams.

Wow, funny how this thread took a turn with this ridiculous, asinine comment. No, a point or two isn't a big worry, in fact the fine is only $170.00. It's the first ticket I've had in over a decade. The point is that it's a bs ticket but I didn't want to go all the way back there to fight it in person. My issue was the principal of the whole thing. Oh, and my current career doesn't require my CDL, hasn't for close to twenty years. I keep it because I can, not because I have to. Have I gotten away with stuff I should have been ticketed for? I plead the 5th... I have been on the TDR off and on for almost two decades and usually everyone is very helpful (and I have returned the favor many times over) which is why I posted the initial question. It wasn't to start a flame war because someone got online, hiding behind the supposed anonymity of being online and wanted to be a jerk.

Diplomacy (or lack of it) aside, I agree, just pay it. The only one that will profit from you fighting it will be a lawyer. I've been through that town more times than I can count, both ways on I-8 and north & south, to and from I-10. I rarely see a policeman so I'm not convinced it is a speed trap. You also don't deny you were exceeding the speed limit. When I was in the Army I got a ticket on base for 32 in a 30. The base commander had instructed the provost marshal to crack down on speeders. In court with me was another soldier that had a ticket for 36 in a 35. You got caught. Suck it up.

FWIW My wife recently got a ticket. It was a bull**** ticket.
Our daughter is a "special needs" girl, so going to court to fight it was not an option. We simply cannot get a baby sitter.
We went with a lawyer. Cost us $600++ for a $150 ticket.
20/20 hindsight we should have just ate it & went on with life.

Why is it that in the US,municipalities are free to set their own fines regardless of severity of the infraction?

That's the total that I got over the phone, I don't know the actual breakdown. I suspect the fine for the actual 5 mph over has added fees and penalties. Oh well that's life. Thanks. I lifted that but it sure rings true. I hope the VA sees the logic in privatizing much of the vets care. They are overwhelmed.

I recently read an article in an auto mag ( Motor Trend?) that listed all the additional fees on a traffic ticket received in Ca. Over $800 in addition to a $200 ticket. Non of the fees were related to the accused infraction. That's the rub. On another note a local LEO got me on radar going 44 in a 25. It was a steep downhill after an intersection. Perfect set up. After checking my driving record he wrote me for 5 over. Told me to go to court and plead my good driving record. That's a RI statute where you pay court costs and there's no record of a moving violation. When I got to court I was informed by the clerk CDL holders were no longer allowed to use this plea. While waiting for the judge to arrive, another CDL holder asks me what I was going to do. I told him I was going 44 in a 25 and got written up for 5 over. I wasn't about to stand up in front of God and the judge and plead not guilty. He said he was going 48, got a 5 over ticket and thought I was right. I paid what I thought at the time was a princely sum of $80 and went home. Had I thought I wasn't treated fairly I'd have spent myself broke fighting the ticket, but that wasn't the case.
