Power Ratio VS Displacement

Better mileage?

I think it's a nice looking trk, but i have reservations.. The weight on the thing has got to be close to the weight of a standard 3/4 ton, plus the price factor is up there with them also.. If it were me i would just opt for a highway geared 2500 with a proven engine and call it a day..

I agree, but at this point can we say with certainty that any of the new diesel engines manufactured by the Big 3 could be considered a "proven engine"? I bet that Dodge, at least would immediately go back to the 5.9 if the feds dropped all the laws and regulations enacted and in effect since 2004.

Do you think they could get 385/900 out of a 5.9 in a warrantable, production engine?

Maybe not. But even if they couldn't, would that level of power be a preferable option for most people who have bought Dodge diesels over the last 20-25 years? I may be in the minority, but I wouldn't trade the hassle-free operation and dependability of my 5.9 for more power, but the added problems of EGR, filters, DEF, etc. Granted, with the regs eliminated they could remove those aspects of the engine. But would it perform as well with the other design differences than does the 5.9 with its stellar history?

The HO 5.9L in my 2002 ETH/DEE was a fine engine, especially with a few towing "bombs" that brought it to 347/762 at the rear wheels, but in all honesty, the 6.7L in my 2011 has been just as trouble-free in towing our 5th wheel. Since I order all my trucks with 4.10 gears for maximum towing capability, there's no way I would give up the double overdrive 6-speed 68RFE or Aisin of the 6.7L trucks and go back to a single overdrive NV5600 or 47/48RE.

Have any of you folks noticed the Nissan Titan looks like a Ford F-150 ? If you don't look at it really close you would think it is a ford.

Yes and no.. Personally i like the older engines better in most cases, regardless of brand.. Biggest issue i had with Gm, their engines just didnt have enough power, and really were not designed for what i do with a truck.. Jump up to the duramax years, power was there, but depending on years, reliability wasnt, and they were hard to work on.. Ford, been happy with any 7.3 powerstroke i have have/had..Been very pleased so far with both the new 6.7 fords i had/have, but dont have a prayer at working on one if the need comes about.. With Dodge, same story with most year's of the 5.9 i have/had, and like the earlier ford, easy to work on if need be.. Biggest issue i had was dodges was the rest of the truck and drivetrain.. In most any case there is not doubt we are getting better trannies and some better performance, but we no doubt have to pay for it, and will the longevity still be in these engine's..
