I did check on the Ram build sight and it will not allow you to chose the 3:73 unless you change to Hemi.
Well if I was in the market for a 2500 CTD, that would kill the deal, unless they wanted to throw in the gear sets changeout with full warranty intact.

But we all know that won't happen. #@$%!

It has been that way since 2013.

If I were in the market right now I would be getting a 3500 SRW and it would have OEM 4.10's installed before it left the lot.

However you use your truck differently than most! I am happy with Cherry's long legs! SNOKING

Within the rated capacities, most people agree that 3.42's do just fine.

I'm only towing about 10k (will be adding another 2k toy this year) with mine, but I am still amazed at the power of these things.

Yes they do. I spend a lot of time at low speed and even the low 1st of the Aisin isn't quite low enough with 3.42's for LONG STEEP mountain grades at 10-20 mph.

This belongs in another thread, but now we're on the subject, my 2014 3:42 diff 68rfe wants to stay @ 45 MPH/1000RPM at cruising speeds and won't downshift unless I apply heavy throttle and causes it to ping badly. So what's the point of having an automatic if I have to constantly manually shift it myself. If 3:73 or higher were available, it would put the CTD in the sweet spot. I do like it at 70ish but mostly city or traffic driving really sucks.

I have always done some kind of manual control of any automatic equipped vehicle I've ever owned. I guess I am used to it and it doesn't bother me....especially since an auto is still doing 90% of the work for me...even if I have lift my finger up once in a while and push a button.

Just hit the TH button.

I tried that for a couple of thousand miles, I don't like the clunks and hard shifting. Went back to just keeping it in 3rd in bumper to bumper and 4th in city driving and up shifting to 5th when @55 on city roads

I hear what you are saying but no owner should have to do that. For what we pay for these trucks, they should work right or Chrysler needs to quit stonewalling us, listen to us and take some type of affirmative action. As for me and my clunking problems, I'm done worrying about it, done fighting the service department and will drive it until it just won't go any further.

Maybe they will bring back the NV5600?

;) That, or a cast iron G56. I'll be installing an NV5600 when my G56 bites the dust, which seems sooner than than expected.

I doubt the NV5600 comes back or you see a cast iron G56. The G56 has been in service longer than the NV5600 with more power than the NV5600 ever received, it may not be the preferred transmission but as far as Ram is concerned it is better and really hasn't been as bad as many want to believe.

I do rather prefer the way my NV shifts thou.

Dodge is content with the G56, because it can get by warranty. When the G56 was considered to replace the bankrupt New Venture NV5600, Mercedes owned it and it was used in medium duty trucks. But you have to consider the fact, its reputation was earned on lower ratios, both in the trans and the diffs. That's why the AD version started with production, but the high RPM's caused Dodge to change to the AE version. It's a transmission you have be easy on, I know because I had Standard Transmission replace the browned bearings, with only 30K miles. The cooler system I equipped on mine works great, and now prevents it from getting above 200*. I'm willing to bet the original G56 for the South American market didn't run as hot due to the high ratios.

You can't tell me it's better, I've owned both. If dodge wants to pay my bill for the money I spent on it, then I'd agree it's better. :-laf :-laf :-laf

People are getting far more than 30K miles out of the bearings... Far more than 100K miles too.

The AE ratio has also been in service longer than the NV5600.

I do prefer my NV5600 and have plenty of time driving both... But, like the aluminum heads on the duramax, the G56 is doing far better than many feared and it's actually doing quite well.
