MWILSON,
I have an '03, QC, 3500, 4X4, SRW, NV-5600 & it had the worst seats of any vehicle I've owned (including a Ford Pinto, years ago). If I drove 45/50 miles, my thighs/legs ached so badly that I had to stop & get out of the truck. I would just about fall out of the truck. It was OK when I first bought it but, over time, the seats went into the basement of the outhouse.
I read a post on the TDR that had a fix for the problem. I thought it was just me getting older and was I ever glad I found the post on the seat fix!!!!! I took the truck to an upholstery warehouse and spoke with the owner and he asked to see the truck and then made a recommendation. What was happening to my seats was that the foam was collapsing from me sitting on it (I'm 5'6" tall and weigh around 160 lbs.). Underneath the foam is what is called a "ladder". It is a wire, metal framework that looks like a ladder. When the foam collapses, you end up sitting on the wire ladder and it seems to block the flow of blood in your legs. At least, that seemed to be my experience. What was recommended was to buy a carpet sample and lay it with the burlap side on the wire and them put a 1/2" thick piece of "Closed-Cell Foam" on top of the carpet sample. Put the old foam on top of that and hook up the upholstery. It worked great!!!! I've driven across country, all day long, with no more leg problems/pains. The fix cost about $20.00 for supplies & my effort & I did both front seats and still have enough C.C. foam to do 2 more seats. What I can't believe is that after nearly 100 years of building trucks, all of which had seats in them, that Dodge engineers/designers would come up with such crap as what they built for sale to us. I'm not an engineer and was able to fix the problem. Why couldn't they? Do they never sit in the seats they build??? Thank you to the person that posted what the problem was & how to fix it. I can use my truck, again!!!! Comfortably!!!!
