I saw an 06 Mega with 190k for $17,000 in Phoenix a couple weeks ago. Jotted the VIN down and turns out it was salvage that was a white truck, this one was black, tailgate said 4x4 but it was 2wd. Body was clean and if you were not paying attention you might think it was a good deal. Looked pretty shady to me.

Dealer finally priced the truck today at just under $31,000. 2005, 4x4, quad cab, auto, 4.10 gears, shortbed, in excellent condition. Interior is like new( seat covers since new). Your thoughts on it?

If 31k gets you in a truck you are going to be happy with for a long time then go for it. I paid north of that for my 06 mega a few years ago with only 21k on it and don't regret it at all. The sting from the extra $ fades away, but if the truck isn't what you want you'll be reminded every time you drive it.

Hmm... wonder what my 05 Dually SWD with 125K miles might be worth. But with 22 MPG at 70 MPH (TX) and not quite 13 MPG towing my 14K Fiver, its priceless to me!

Oh, the wife said during our last trip as she's clutching her back.."It's really something when the seats in an off road Can-Am are twice as good as the one's in this frigin' truck!!!"....

So the groundwork for new seats is already in place....:D

I had the same problem with the seats in my '06. It got to the point that I hated even going to the grocery store in it. My hips and back would ache every day and I started to despise that truck. I had the seat bottoms rebuilt at a local shop for around $100. Wow, what a difference.

I bought my 2005 2500 4wd short bed CC NV5600 114K miles a month ago in Sacramento for $29.6K. I looked for 2 months and I'm telling you they go high everywhere from car lots and a little less with some good deals private party but they sell fast. It was hard to pay that much for 10 year old truck but in the end I got tired of looking. I'm happy with the truck. Now I got to pay for it for next 5 years.

I feel kind of bad putting Mike in this position. I know what it's like. I wasn't in the market for a new truck til I drove my nephew's at a 4 th of July party. I bought my 15 about 3 weeks later.

MWILSON,
I have an '03, QC, 3500, 4X4, SRW, NV-5600 & it had the worst seats of any vehicle I've owned (including a Ford Pinto, years ago). If I drove 45/50 miles, my thighs/legs ached so badly that I had to stop & get out of the truck. I would just about fall out of the truck. It was OK when I first bought it but, over time, the seats went into the basement of the outhouse.
I read a post on the TDR that had a fix for the problem. I thought it was just me getting older and was I ever glad I found the post on the seat fix!!!!! I took the truck to an upholstery warehouse and spoke with the owner and he asked to see the truck and then made a recommendation. What was happening to my seats was that the foam was collapsing from me sitting on it (I'm 5'6" tall and weigh around 160 lbs.). Underneath the foam is what is called a "ladder". It is a wire, metal framework that looks like a ladder. When the foam collapses, you end up sitting on the wire ladder and it seems to block the flow of blood in your legs. At least, that seemed to be my experience. What was recommended was to buy a carpet sample and lay it with the burlap side on the wire and them put a 1/2" thick piece of "Closed-Cell Foam" on top of the carpet sample. Put the old foam on top of that and hook up the upholstery. It worked great!!!! I've driven across country, all day long, with no more leg problems/pains. The fix cost about $20.00 for supplies & my effort & I did both front seats and still have enough C.C. foam to do 2 more seats. What I can't believe is that after nearly 100 years of building trucks, all of which had seats in them, that Dodge engineers/designers would come up with such crap as what they built for sale to us. I'm not an engineer and was able to fix the problem. Why couldn't they? Do they never sit in the seats they build??? Thank you to the person that posted what the problem was & how to fix it. I can use my truck, again!!!! Comfortably!!!!

While I know I would instantly regret it, this thread has made me seriously consider selling my truck. :-laf

Right up to the minute you drive out of a dealership in a new 2016 CTD with Aisin transmission and all the nifty bells and whistles! SNOKING

My friend gave 25K for a nearly identical '04.5 ST w/60k on it here.
It came smogged without a cat from a dealer. They insisted that it didn't need one despite a vin. printout from Dodge.
It took a mention of contacting B.A.R. and a brand new complete exhaust was installed.

You're not helping, sir. :D (But I'd be happy with $20k... :-laf )

Hey, I loved my 2001.5 and still miss it in some ways, however there is no turning back now wanted or needed! Yesterday we were cruise back to the RV park from an afternoon out and I asked DW what she thought of Cherry as our new daily driver as we cruised along at 65 listening to the XM radio without any engine or road noise. She said I love it! SNOKING

I understand that. After I sound deadened my 04, our traveling enjoyment increased immensely due to the newfound quiet. I can only imagine the comfort found in the new trucks.

I am old enough to appreciate the quiet of the new trucks but young enough to still want to hear the turbo spool up and down from the intake and tail pipe. This cool sound requires a standard transmission and the radio off:D

So Scotty-u did you buy it?

Doing a craigslist search across the country shows the prices are all over the place, but typically high. It may make sense to pick up a southern rust free gasser with a bad motor sometime in the future and then swap the Cummins from my 05 rust bucket into it. Does anyone know if the 2wd frames are the same as the 4wd frames? Were the frames the same from year to year?
