Fca support? NOT

I called ram customer care only to have some snotty nosed woman get in my face. I told her that ram should have a warning on short bed pickups. " if using this SHORTBED for fifth wheel towing, a sliding hitch is MANDATORY to avoid truck and trailer damage."
She told me I installed the hitch wrong. I told her I'd send pics. She said don't send pics, I won't look at them anyway.... Her name was kenesha... Who in the heck is fca hiring?. So much for my bloviating....still my truck is not fixed..... 3 weeks now... Waiting on rear glass...
Chrysler customer used to be GREAT,! Not any longer...

Why is that RAM's Fault! Every dealer that I have dealt with when buying a 5er and I am on my third one. Has asked are you towing with a short bed truck? If yes; they have told me I need a slider hitch. My answer is yes I have one. Any short bed truck needs a slider hitch everything from a furd, chevy,gmc and Ram trucks.

I have always said there are two type of people who tow with a short bed truck and a 5er. "Those who have hit the cab and those who will hit the cab"

Yes! I agree... The dealer sent me to a truck place for a hitch. They showed me the Andersen and the video pulling a 5 foot bed. I was impressed and I was sold... They guaranteed the truck and trailer would not hit.. I got my money back after the damage... Now have the superglide...

I agree with Jim, not Ram's fault. Why would you even think to call them? They can't warn people about every possible mistake that they (the customer) themselves may cause. It is up to you to watch your equipment when you are backing up. Sure, the hitch dealer was wrong, but ultimately, it is your fault.

Before buying my first 5th wheel hitch, I did a bit of research, found I needed a slider.......and I TESTED IT OUT! I checked the limits, I did not just go for it and hope for the best.

I'm starting to notice a pattern, if you are always being treated poorly by these people you complain too, don't you think the problem might start with your attitude?

I just read my owner's manual cover to cover and no where did I find anything that says my Ram won't drive underwater! So I'm gonna go try it and when it fails I'm gonna sue Ram cuz they didn't warn me!

LOL Just trying to interject a little humor. But seriously, that isn't Ram's fault at all. SOME 5th wheels have a tapered nose and CAN be towed just fine on a short bed without a slider. Your RV dealer or the person that installed the 5th wheel hitch should have mentioned it to you.

This is why there is a label on rotary mowers telling you not to pick it up while running to clip your hedges. They can't account for every conceivable, and, moreover, in-conceivable thing owners will attempt with their vehicles. Chalk it up to experience and move on.

I think I also missed cautions, coffee is hot, don't stand in front of airplane propellor while engine is running, wet floor, don't swim near boat. While prop is turning... Don't try to catch lawn darts,,,,caution fan, airbags can kill children. Gravity sux!!!'

You buy a SHORT bed truck and there will things that YOU will have to do to compensate for not having a LONG bed truck. Look at SNOKING's truck bed it's amazing what he fit in a short bed truck.

I also think this one is mostly on you.......but wholeheartedly agree and understand the frustrations of dealing with FCA. During the buyback process on my 2014, the numerous people and departments I dealt with were all the same.......worthless! They were sock puppets, reading from a scripted response book, lied a lot, made empty promises....a lot. Dealing with FCA is like hitting your thumb with a hammer.....it feels so much better when you stop....:-laf

Even the end all of having long bed truck can have the trailer hit the rail of the bed with say the lack of culverts and a big drainage dip along the sides of American roads. This is why they have a 3rd option of flatbeds.

Some business entrances with extreme approach angles have even snapped my weight distribution bars clean in half on WD hitches. (A "SNAP!" you feel.)

RV transport companies will not lease short bed trucks for this exact reason: you are going to hit the cab with a trailer. Sliders are just an excuse for using the wrong tool for the job.

So choose between backing into things with longbed or having the trailer hit the shortbed cab. And then the trailer hits the rails on either choice... No happy answer here.

Not all of the Ram trucks are offered with a full size 8' bed. My truck only comes standard with ONE style of bed a 6'.5" from the factory. So I must use a slider hitch

Another reason to go GN/LB much easier to adjust....Who wants the weight the hassle and the loss of the bed. OK so the maker of the TT doesn't like GN. fine by Me I will go buy one that does.

With GN its easy to raise the TT axles when makers change the bed height, Back 2013 the SRW beds were 2.5" higher the 3Gens, We had to lift ALL of our trailers 2" Gibson Fab made Us New axle brackets we lifted the Trailers welded the New Brackets in then bolted to the axle, Most of our trailers are Tri-axles about 4hr labor per trailer, this included changing the GN height. If we had 5ths it would have PITR, We would have had to buy Brackets, Rims ,tires and the stupid hitch.

Why are people stuck on those 5er, is it BC you need the SB,I just don't think SB and 5er or GN is worth the risk.

5th wheel locking systems are and always will be superior to a ball and socket. Period. I don't want to get into a debate about some weak 5th wheel jaw made by some crummy chinese company not being as strong as the best gooseneck setup on the market, I'm talking about an even comparison. A gooseneck absolutely allows for more articulation, no argument there. Another major point to consider on 5th vs. gooseneck is when you are towing doubles. Most states only allow for ONE ball and socket connection on ANY form of combination by law. Multiple 5th wheel and pintle hitches are obviously fine. I'm sure there's a reason for that. Another plus is quite a few states allow for passengers in a 5th wheel. None of them allow for passengers in a ball and socket combination. I'm not trying to say whether or not you should carry passengers in a 5th wheel, just simply that you can.

locking for the average guy I will concede on that....If the jaws are lock with the latch on any GN ,you will rip the hitch out 1st, I know My Dad would not wait until I return home back in 1998 ,he had North St Paul Hitch install one of those bolt ins, He rip it out and tore the box and tail gate right off the Pickup at DKV landfill in 1999 dumping one of our Tri-axle dump trailers, Bob the landfill packer watch the whole thing, My Dad was band form returning there,Hey we are in West right now heading home tomorrow.
