I just replaced my fan clutch and still have the P0480. I have a CTS so can clear the DTC but it comes right back. Is there something else that can cause the DTC other than the fan clutch:confused:

I had a green wire on the clutch side of the harness cause my P0480.
Maybe you have a similar issue but in the engine harness?
Did you check the Visitronic fuse in the Fuses next to the battery? I forget the number but it's called out on the lid on my 04.5.

  • When Monitored:When the ignition is on.
  • Set Condition:When the control coil is electrically shorted or open.

Possible Causes
FAN CLUTCH
WIRE HARNESS DAMAGED
OPEN FAN CLUTCH (K160) DRIVER CIRCUIT
(K160) DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORTED TO (K690) RETURN CIRCUIT
(K160) DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORTED TO BATTERY NEGATIVE
INTERMITTENT CONDITION
ECM

It's a Hayden aftermarket.

Should there be 12VDC on pin 6 of the clutch connector on the engine side with the ignition on? I have no voltages on any pins and no continuity from the low side of the fuse to the fan clutch connector.

The aftermarket thing is a issue, but not causing your problem- yet. Bobs contribution above is pure gold to you now. Yes you need 12 key on at pin 6. That is the circuit on the far left in the diagram. I start by checking the connectors C 112 and C130. Looks like you have an open. I understand that you do have 12vdc at the fuse- yes?

Thanks Wayne, Bob's info really helped or I would be just wandering around. The next question is where is C112 and C130 as I don't have FSM to locate them. Is there a source for diagrams that show where these are? After looking at Bob's info I realized it was not a straight wire but didn't have a clue where the connectors were. Any help is appreciated.

Bob, where is C112 located? I have a pre 2004.5 model so I should be looking for C112 correct. Are the 2 big connectors along the fire wall just right of center the connectors? These don't look like the C112 photo above. I'm trouble shooting the 12VDC to the fan clutch and I want to know where the 2 connectors in your diagram are that the 12VDC go thru. Those are connectors correct? Thanks

So have come to the conclusion there are no connectors between the fuse and the connector to the fan clutch is that correct? So my next question is which of the connectors on the fuse box is the one that feeds the 12 VDC to the fan clutch? Thanks John

Hey Wayne, yes I have 12 volts at the fuse, but I don't think C112 and C130 are additional connectors. Maybe C112 is the connector that connects to the fan clutch and C130 is the connector that connects to the fuse box?

Those are circuits, C112, C130. The Drive-Fan-Connector is under the CP-3 on the front of the engine. Have to have a connector to change out the fan

You are going to have to crawl under the truck and get dirty to find this stuff. The FSM break downs just list the circuits and connectors, not where they are.

I don't want to insult but did you read this post? I have already changed out the fan clutch and I'm trying to trouble shoot the lack of 12 volts to the fan clutch. Before you reply have something to add to the conversation less the sarcasm. Thanks,

Also my connector is at the bottom of the radiator and is held there with one of those push in connector. the wire runs up the passenger side behind the air cleaner into the harness along the fire wall. It's not on the engine on a 2004.
