Looks like you're getting close. Can you get it done before work goes crazy again?

Nigel

In actual fact, havent touched the truck in the last 5 weeks. Have been doing 105 hour weeks for the last 5 weeks so have not had a chance to even look at it. Seems that schedule has already begun. :(

When I saw this Pic, i knew you had a gear vender type gear box. 1)How do you like it and who is the manufacture? 2)Also, what RPM are you running and what is the rear diff ratio? I'll be converting over to a NV5600 as soon as I can afford it, (looks like next year from this May), so I have to shorten the drive shaft, it made me think this would be a good time to install the Gear Vender.

Here are some facts and some opinion, Roberts will vary:)

Note the distance the GV hangs from the T-case, it is long and heavy. The 205 cast iron case will probably hold it, your aluminum case won't.

You can't use overdrive in the GV in 4x4 or with the exhaust brake. They also will not work in over drive until they reach a certain speed, like 20mph or so.

The GV ratios don't play well with the 6spd, they don't split well like the 4 and 5 spds.

The Cummins power is hard on them if you tow heavy, especially if you have more than stock power.

Nick

Thanks Nick, well I fall into several of the applications your describing. Seeing how I have to custom fit a cross member for the NV5600, maybe I can add an extra crossmember to support the GV? Getting around the EB is a serious issue for me, I never turn mine off and it stays on permanently due to the C&C EB. And when I tow my 5ver, I'm @ 23K GCW, I guess I'll have to reconsider this. All opinions welcome. I don't mean to Hijack this thread, so if it gets more response, I'll start another Thread.

1 - The mfg is Gear Vendors. I have used one in my 1990 for close to 7 years and I have very few complaints aside of the ones that Nick mentioned. They are designed for muscle cars and can be used for towing. But you can run the EB in ON when GV is engaged. The clutches are one direction and dont do well when reverse loaded. All said and done they are pretty beefy for a 38 lbs OD. But not beefy enough for those of us towing heavy.

2 - I have a 265/70/17 and a 3.07 rear diff and I run 1850 rpm at 75 mph in 5 over. In 6 over, I would run 1350 at same speed.

Yup. All agreed. Good if you find that nich but but a bit temperamental and restricting. Better off to get a Spicer brownie box for what you want to do.

Hey everyone!! Guess what time it is?? Yup, that's right...it's time for cold weather to move in and snow to start flyin up in Canada-land. The reason that's so exciting? Because the ultimate 1st Gen crew cab is going to be getting some MUCH over-due attention. So, sit back and enjoy the ride ladies and gents...this thread is about to get bombarded with weekly updates and pictures! :);):-laf

Good afternoon, first visit to this post. As many have stated the craftsmanship and attention to detail on your project is fantastic. Thanks for sharing. As I looked back on the posts, I see that (at least for me) I'm unable to see the pictures associated with
the older posts. is that just me or a normal event. If that is, is their any other way we can see the project from the beginning ?

Respectfully, Kyle T.

I just checked...and it seems I can see at the least the first 8 pages of pictures fine. I didn't check all 55 pages though. Wow. I knew this build had been going on awhile, but I had forgotten how long! As they say, all good things take time!

Kyle
I think Robert had some of his pictures on PhotoBucket and I believe that host is gone for good. Don't get him sidetracked looking for old pictures, this build has been going on too long now. We want to see it finished.

Hey Kyle,

Sorry for the delay in the response! Got loaded down at work!

The thread started years ago with all photos loaded onto the TDR server. Then the website changed and was updated and the links were broken. The forum admin was kind enough to relink the old database and it worked again. After a quick check, I do see the pics not showing up on all pages again. :( Boo.

Yeah, all the pics are on photo bucket but it is really hard to see all of it in order and much of it wont make sense. Let me see what I can do...

Poop. I think I just got sidetracked like you warned Kyle about..... :-laf

I dont like linking other forums, but when the pics dont show up on this forum due to them no longer supporting their old software.... :(

This is the same build on another site but has been running for a much shorter time. As is the case, there is a lot less info there as few questions were asked, but it does have all the pics. :)

***Mods, feel free to delete this link if needed. However if deleting this link, can you look into getting my pics back? :)***
