just as 15/40 will always be better then 5/40 for the long haul as there is less viscosity modifiers to break down. the only advantage the 5-40 has is the cold pour point.
i just picked up 8 gallons of VPB 15-40 for 10$ a jug. and last week i got the VPB 5-40 (for dirtbikes and UTV) for 15$ a jug.
i need to stop buying oil.. i think right now i have enough on hand to last me 4-5 years.

and the old idea that you need to drain at 3-5K is out dated. todays oils are great. and will easily stand up to 7500 mile change interval.

And our manuals say 15K , I don't go that. I go every six months about 5K

Ron, with 22261 miles on the clock am I ahead of you now?

Third leg yesterday in Northern Oregon was a real mess with snow and ice. And the number of trucks on I-5 are unbelievable.

That sweeping left turn at the bottom on the final pull to Siskiyou Summit had a large 3'x2'x2.5' boulder setting in lane 2 with a semi driver out of his cab waving people to keep left. Snoking

Scary especially towing a cargo trailer.

I had 30,418 miles on truck at oil change and all other filters. 15K on the oil.

You obviously performed your 30k AISIN service as well.......I presume???

Yes I did. I drained exactly 8 quarts and added back the same of the Mopar fluid. I am not at my shop until Spring so I may dump 8 more quarts since I have it before heading home. then later in the Summer I will dump ALL the fluid change filter and refill with full synthetic AMZ/OIL Universal ATF.

It was a fluid/filter frenzy that day! Changed oil, air and fuel filters along with transferase, it now has the AMZ/OIL ATF.

Thanks for posting your Johnny I have many fond memories of my teens flogging my Dads 520 That was an amazing old girl I tried my best but I could not break her . I loved that tractor

On a sidenote.....I'm currently doing the 3rd sump filter replacement on mine today.

I'm going over the pan bolts one last time, then re-installing the crossmember, then the skid plate, add fluid, and test drive. Then I'll be good to go...

GEEZE I thought I would get some slack with my explanation!

I will do the crossmember removal also. My Son raised his trans and had a bugger of a time getting the front pan bolts back in.

Have you ever done a Blackstone report on the trans fluid?

There ya go THINKING again :-laf

I have not. As easy as it is to sample (with drain plug) I really should.....but I have not. Perhaps I will at the next 30k drain & fill.........
Personally I never have or never will do a partial fluid change. I don't change "part" of my engine oil.
Never SAY "Never" :-laf

And she is a good woman, but has a few of Lucy's traits. Think "The Long Long Trailer"!

Does anyone go by just what the computer says when to change oil and fuel filters? I'm at 9600 mi and still have 35% on both. Needless early change?!?! Was thinkin 10,000 just for easy of remembering....
BTW, this is a daily driver, nothing special, tows a few times a year, NOT in a dusty dirty area, and my first diesel...which I'm loving so far!!

Diesel supplement states:. Under no circumstances should oil change intervals
exceed 15,000 miles (24,000 km) or six months or
500 Hours, whichever comes first.

Thanks!! much appreciated!!

I've only got 306 hours but its been over 6 mos so i guess I'm in the every 6 mos category.......

Daily Driver? Change it before 15,000 due to possible fuel dilution. Especially if it's the first change

I changed mine yesterday, about 8 months and 5,000 miles........couldn't believe how bad the oil looked after that short of time. It was a black, nasty, smelly mess....yuk! Did the oil filter through the fender with Geno's filter cap, too easy, didn't even get my hands dirty.
