I just noticed something that maybe you all already know. My OEM running boards are the first contact point with the door of most sedans when they open next to me. So the running boards protect the
doors from parking lot dings. I thought I wanted AMP retractable running boards but the truck came with the OEM boards. Now I am glad I have them.

Being one that parks in the north forty where all the lazy ***** don't , I accomplish two things, one no dings, and I get a bit of exercise. And gives me an opportunity to take back a couple carts left in the parking lot, which could possibly protect your truck from getting hit by one that those side steps won't :)

Never thought much about the Amps until my son just recently put them on his new Cummins. I am kicking myself I didn't negotiate the Amps when I bought mine. already invested in the side steps, but next truck will definitely have the Amp automatic steps.

I already drug a digging bar down the outside of my truck bed, so first scratch is out of the way......

Nonetheless, I always park in BFE and fold my mirrors in. Too many illegals driving out of date registered cars when we makes trips to town.

Yup, my nerf bars on the 04 save me lots of heartache. During the 12 years, I owned her, I only got one ding... in a church parking lot no less.

My last truck came with Amp running boards. Ford replaced the left side 3 times under warranty and the passenger side twice all is just less than 6 years and 125,000 miles.
'We live in RI and we are surrounded by salt water so I'm sure they lived a tough life but I will be happy to never own one ever again!

My 2010 1/2 ton has several good size door dings. It goes in to the city on a regular basis so sometimes there isn't an option as to where to park. I wish I would have side steps or nerf bars on it if it would have offered some protection.

On a side note, just one little other comment on nerf bars/side step protection. I high sided our former Silverado on a rock on at one point. Though it bent up the nerf bar on that side, it did zero damage to the body. My wife accidentally caught a culvert on the edge of a snow covered road with our 2010 a couple winters ago. It was over $1000 to fix the damage to the bottom of the rocker panel and the front corner of the bed. I'm convinced that nerf bars would have greatly reduced the amount of damage in that situation.

This !!!!!!!!!

When I'm out on the road, driving for several hours at a time, I park as far away as possible from others (particularly at Truckstops) in order to get a little extra exercise after being confined. The only time I don't park in the north forty is if it's a monsoon.....or blizzard.

I always look for an end stall to ride up on the curb or park way out depending on the space availability. I used to do the curb thing in my Red 98 and it never had any dings.

I'm with you about the north forty. But sometimes that is not possible, and even when it is, it is amazing how often the herd mentality kicks in and someone has to park next to me.

I was going to say, I'll park out there, and no cars within 50 yards, and come out and cars are parked on both sides of me. Oh well got some walking in .

I have a good one
Back in April 2004 it was really windy day So I park were no one was within 4 stalls either way, I called the wife and asked what she wanted Me to Pick Up at Cub foods. When I was on the Phone A Suburban pull up on My riders Side, Their was 2 Women in the vehicle the Rider open the door right at a gust of wind WHAM right into my rider side cab door. I instantly jump out and I mean it was a dent NOT a ding. I told the Younger women that was driving to give Me Her Insurance and DL ,the old lady said its a truck and begged off and started walking to the store. I mentioned I was going to call the Police, they just kept right on walking, Well 10 minutes went By and No police Yet, Then Some Guy's drives up and Starts giving Me a HARD TIME, it was the younger women husband and owner of the Suburban, Just than the Blaine Police show Up and He opens the Suburban door and it matches the dent perfectly, The Cop states Yep that's a dent and ask for DL and Insurance, The husband states He wasn't driving and I confirmed his wife was and the old lady open the door. Well the husband states the old lady is his Mom visiting form FL. Just about now the 2 Women show up and the cop ask for DL and insurance form Me and the women driving than he ask the old lady for some type ID, I gave My Ins and DL instantly but they were reluctant, and never surrender Ins claiming they did not have it with them, but they did give ID DL, The Cop handed Me My Ins and DL and handed the Younger women her DL, turned to the old lady and said put your hands behind your back, You have a warrant for your arrest ( it was a body warrant for unpaid fines years back when she lived in MN) Off went Grandma to jail Heeeheeee.

The Cop issue the young lady citation for NO Insurance and they had 7 Days to surrender the info to Me and MN dept of public safety, they did go to the DMV but would NOt give it to Me. They lived in Blaine MN so the Cop went Back to their Home and demanded the info to be surrendered they decline and he went back to his squad to get the citation pad , they finally gave the info to Him and he passed it on to Me, it cost $450.00 in 2004.

We call this grandma go's to jail event.

I just spent $300 ON PDR on my 2013 and 15. I hate door dings & pressure dings
