Opinions Please: Mega Cab short bed vs Crew Cab long bed?

Well thats pretty nice, I'll bet it has at least HALF the space of my mega cab


And I don't think I am exaggerating

It has all that we need. AND we have a long bed to tow our 5th wheel. It suits our requirements just fine, thanks.

Yup, can say the same about my 1 ton Mega cab, gets it done very nicely. Just different needs .

I had the same struggle for years which is why I kept my 2ng gen waiting for Dodge/Ram to build a Mega Cab Long bed. In 2014 I had enough and just bought a Mega Cab and immediately had it chopped (750 miles on the odometer), stretched 20" and a factory long bed added. Problem solved. I absolutely could not be happier. I subjected myself to a short bed for several years, can never go back. I don't understand how someone could have a HD truck and a short bed...but we all use our trucks different I suppose. It's like having a dog that won't hunt in my mind.

I tow a 38' fifth wheel with that 3500 Mega Cab short bed, thats what is was bought for, last thing in world I would own if not towing heavy. Yes its an HD truck with a short bed, didn't buy it for construction ,didn't buy to haul sheetrock, and lumber from Home Depot, don't haul a bunch of stuff in the bed.

I spend about 3-4 months RV'ing. In my bed is three things ,my hitch ,a propane bottle for BBQ, and the electrical cord for the fifth wheel, and I get along just fine. Don't need a toolbox back there nor a auxiliary tank.

Having a long bed to me is fishing a small stream with a 9 or 10 foot fly rod , when a 7-8 will work much better in my mind

I have the Mega and 3 kids and love the behind the back seat storage - kids keep jackets, bags, neck pillows, blankets, etc back there on camping or ski trips. They also like to be able to recline the seats. For normal driving (solo) I keep winter gear (in the winter of course) like extra coat, boots, gloves, etc. The short bed is fine for my use which is mainly mulch in the Spring (holds 2 yards) and camping gear (with a topper/shell) in the Summer. I also like the fold flat back seat and have used it quite a bit - with the way the back door opens, you can put a lot of stuff back there.

I would ,and you can get the seats just like the Mega Cab, that fold down flat, or better yet just buy a Mega Cab dually

I hope they don't shrink the hood too much.... some of the renderings remind me of the days of the Dakota and the Durango where the grill was just s shrunken down Ram grill.

Those renderings remind me of the current Durango. But it is just a rendering so maybe the artist is looking at the next stall in the stable for influence. No telling which way they will go even though I think the current Durango is a fine looking truck and would probably look good with a heavier brow.

It does sound like Dodge is going to be the one to let go of the crosshair grill though. The last year or so sure looked like Ram was going to be restyling their grille with the flared nostril look. Maybe that will just stay with select trims that have it now. I wonder what Dodge is going to go to?
