When the dog stands his ground for a ATV ride...

A friend has a Mercedes 2500 Sprinter Van with the 3.0 Blu tec governed at 82 mph what is the best way to increase the governed speed. Talked to my friend again and I was wrong it is governed at 74 mph.

Don't take this the wrong way BUT 82 MPH in that crackerbox is plenty fast.....

I don't know what you would do to speed it up without sacrificing some low end grunt....it is what it is.....

If you've ever driven one out west where the speed limit is 75 or even 80, you would understand why being electronically limited at 82 is downright scary.

I get what you are saying as I have driven out West but 82 is plenty fast for that van.

We have a 75 mph speed limit here on I95 from Old Town to Houlton but after the novelty wore off we all pretty much settled at the posted speed. No one would stop you from running 80 to 84 but it just seemed too fast after a bit..

What's the speed rating of the tires?

Generally in the case of pickup trucks, their governed speed is dictated by the speed rating of the tires.

Good point, that could very well be the reason. I know that style of van does use a funky tire size and rating...

My 2015 2500 Passenger van came with 245/75/16 Load range E Kumho Road Venture APT. They have a S speed rating to 112 MPH.

Some of the cargo vans were delivered with 245/75/16 Load range E Continental Vanco with a Q speed rating to 99 MPH.

This guy claims it is a NAFTA thing.....looks like a turner is the only way to outwit it. Overseas the dealers will change the high limit but not here in the USA.

I learned something from that link also. It appears that all of the factory Sprinters are set at 82 as I mentioned above. However, some fleet use Sprinter such as Ryder, etc., have an optional setting at 74. So I stand corrected, if the OP's friend purchased an ex-fleet Sprinter, it may in fact have a 74 MPH top speed.

Yes, it very well could be.

As I'm sure you read in that thread the US dealers can at least get it set for the 82 mph which would be a help....

Yes, that would be great if the dealer could get it to the 82. Even though I still hate the Idea of a speed limiter at all, it is better than 74. I also noticed that the OP is from Montana. If his buddy has an ex-fleet Sprinter limited to 74 out there, he is simply a sitting duck on the highway. Doesn't Montana have some areas that have 80 mph speed limits?

I've got family out west, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho adopted 80 mph speed limits. I believe it is mainly the open rural stretches, there are spots on I80 that go through passes that they reduce the posted speed. From what I understand, at least in Wyoming, the Highway Patrol is much less lenient about running above the posted speed. The 5 mph buffer does not necessarily apply anymore.

The van was a limo people hauler for a private owner so private sale no corporation ownership.

I do not know what rpms at 74 but its definite 74mph.

Yes he does get run over by traffic that's the main reason.

My thoughts exactly. The Sprinters I see here are very top heavy with tiny wheels.
