Thanks Greg good information. I did my first filter change on the Aisin today at just over 62000 miles. Although I had followed along as this thread progressed, I wish I had looked at this thread again and bought some of the spray adhesive you used, it was tough getting the gasket in place and putting the bolts in with nothing holding it in place. I measured 8 quarts removed, but darkness prevented my finishing tonight.

Did you get any codes after sump filter R&R?

Personally, I would not risk getting any kind of glue/adhesive in the transmission. Sounds like a bad idea using that to hold the gasket in place.

Using the spray adhesive has not been an issue....at least through 290k miles :-laf

All I have ever used has been a verrrrrrrrry light coat....just enough to make it tacky enough to hold in place.

I finished up today, and yes got the low fluid code plus 3 others (P2201 which I have been getting off and on for over a year, and U029D and 029E) unrelated to changing the trans, apparently just a coincidence. I cleared all the codes and the U029D&E came back.

Hi Larry,

Please let us know how difficult is was (or wasn't) getting at those rear pan bolts. What tools did you use?

Best regards,

John

I did the same as Greg, I used a bottle jack and block of wood to support the transfer case, remove 3 nuts holding the trans mount to cross member and then remove the inner bolt on drivers side and both bolts from passenger side of crossmember and used a pry bar to pull it down enough to access bolts in pan. To put the crossmember back in place I used a second bottle jack to lift the crossmember in place and replaced all the bolts.

I don't have access to a welder or would have done that mod as well. Not worrried about it now as this is hopefully the last time I will need to change filter on this one. Having the motorhome will cut some of the miles I was putting on the Ram.
