The flash for the 17 and 18 trucks was out yesterday but they pulled it back earlier today because of some concerns. No word when it might be reissued but I would guess it will be over the weekend.
As far as worrying about the shifter recall the chances of a failure are pretty slim. You have to hold your foot on the brake with the vehicle in park for more than five minutes before the solenoid might get hot enough to stick. I'm not sure any manufacturer tests a BTSI solenoid under those conditions, but it appears someone did it and the solenoid stuck in the released position. If you set the parking brake and put it in park when you shut it off like you’re supposed to, it is really a non-issue.

What flash are you talking about?

Ask FCA to make your monthly payment until parts come in. I don’t want to drive mine at -30 and have a breakdown and then be walking. Anchorage is 350+ miles (the next real town from me). Since that makes my truck pretty much useless, I’ve asked them to make the note. We’ll see what happens. They covered the note on my challenger back in 2009-10 when the dealer couldn’t figure out a problem and it sat at the dealership.

That was pretty commendable of them to make the payment. Not too often do you hear of big business doing the"right" thing.
When we bought the wife's new Mountaineer in 08, it developed a strange issue with the AWD system where traction control would violently kick in and out for no reason going down the road. Long story short they had it over 7 weeks and from day one gave us a brand new Hyundai off the lot as all of their loaners were out. My wifes job at the time required alot of traveling (800+ miles a week). Although she had (still actually has it) a VW TDI to rack the miles up, we explained to them what her job was and that she would drive the Mercury in poor weather. The service manager put it in writing that we would not be responsible for mileage of the new loaner....needless to say she was a bit shocked when it came back in due for an oil change 6 weeks later :D But she kept her word and went out of her way more than once after that to accommodate us.

The point of all this rambling is even though we had some issues with that particular vehicle the dealership more than made up for it by working with us in ways I feel they didn't exactly have to. I just wish there was a Ram dealership around here that was at least half as helpful. My experiences so far with FCA have not been the greatest.

I called FCA on Feb 12 per my dealers recommendation for the water pump recall I was told the new improved pumps will be available Feb. 22. Well three days l had some errands to do and when I returned home I noticed something leaking from the front. It was antifreeze. Went straight to the dealer and was told all they could do was to replace the water pump with the same one and when the replacement come in that would be replaced. They did the work everything is ok now but I will have to do without the truck when replacement time comes.

FCA told me on Friday the 16th that water pumps wouldn’t be available until mid May. Who’s BSing who?

I don’t imagine different dealers or dealers in different parts of the country would be fielded the water pumps at different times but that’s really all I could think of.

I was playing around with USAA’s car buying service, not thinking I clicked a button to submit my vehicle request, next thing you know I have multiple dealers calling me. One that I spoke with, Whitten Brothers, Midlothian VA; I explained to them that was a mistake and that I was only mildly entertaining the thought of trading in my truck because of the water pump recall and FCA not having a solution yet.

Without asking, they proceeded to explain they “understand our frustration”, blah, but that they are too, frustrated, because they have a large inventory of trucks they can’t sell until they repair defective water pumps but that FCA had finally produced a replacement and they’re supposed to arrive towards the end of February. Again, I didn’t even ask if they knew the status of FCA producing a replacement and that it was the sole reason I was even considering trading in my truck, it was my last resort. So with another forum member mentioning it and this dealer confirming it without directly being asked about it, I’m lead to believe it’s real and either that dealer is misinformed or they are receiving them at a different time, in my opinion.

On a side note all NEW vehicles sold from WHITTEN BROTHERS comes with a 10 YEAR, 200,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, you do not have to pay extra for it. It is their way of saying “Thank you to their customers for purchasing from them” AND it’s valid NATIONWIDE, not just with them.

Read the fine print. You have to have all your service performed at that dealership in order for that warranty to be in effect. I'd hardly call that "at no charge".

I’m going to have to respectfully disagree, I’m pretty sure it’s like that for any warranty work to be honored whether you have just the factory warranty or purchase an extended warranty. This warranty is offered with the new vehicle at no cost to the owner, for the powertrain only. My current truck came with a 5 year 60k mile powertrain warranty, 3 year, 36k mile bumper to bumper, but I paid extra for a 5 year 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty. I still have to have it serviced at the dealer or a certified auto shop in order for them to honor any warranty work that may arise. I’m all for doing my own maintenance, but I’d have no issues issues having it serviced at a dealer for that long of a powertrain warranty.

Wrong. You need proof of maintenance . Sales slips for parts and supplies and a hand written maint log are all that's required. Further more, records from any licensed repair facility for required maint are evidence also. I maintain all my vehicles in this manner and have yet to have any warranty work denied. That's since 1992 and covers at least a million miles on 3 dodge trucks.

"My current truck came with a 5 year 60k mile powertrain warranty,"

This is right from Chrysler Diesel Warranty info for 2016. Powertrain warranty is 5/100K

I have done this on my current truck but I asked the dealer I bought it from if this was ok. While I could assume that would be allowed nationwide, I didn’t want to say that and not be sure. I don’t like putting out information I “think” I know, but thank you for bringing that up.

I imagine that would apply to that warranty provided by Whitten but I wouldn’t know for sure without reading the details of it. It could very well say that it MUST be serviced by a dealer or certified auto shop since they offer that special warranty on all new vehicles but at this point I do not know. I only know that it comes with all new vehicle purchases from them and is honored nationwide.

You are absolutely right, my bad on that one. I did purchase purchase more so the bumper to bumper matched the powertrain though I kind of wish I hadn’t. Oh well, to late now.

Just an FYI, you can get a pro-rated refund on your Mopar extended warranty.

Guys, I am in the process of purchasing a 2016 2500 Laramie 4x4 Diesel Crew Cab. I am having to wait for the recall to be completed.

I talked to the dealer yesterday and they now have the details for repairs for 2017 and 2018 trucks. He will let me know today if they have the final details for the 2016 Cummins versions. Once I know more I will send an update.

My Ram Toolbox app (android phone ( updated in the past 24 hours and it went from parts NOT available to parts available.

Don't know if it's just South Florida or even if it is true at all.

Just thought I would post this as an update even not knowing how accurate my Ram Toolbox app is. It has been spot on in the past.

Thanks for weighing in. If the recall is released to dealers in the near future, please advise.

You just saved me some time communicating with any one of my local , incompetent dealers.

The T51 recall has been released !
For those that said Ram didn’t care-step to the back of the line. There are 2 suppliers providing the replacement pumps and they do appear slightly diferent. Each pump has its own part #.
Not all trucks will get a new pump.If you have the Omp,you are good to go,if you have the Concentric the pump will be inspected for the vent hole.If yours has the vent hole you are good to go.
