I have a Crown Vic Police Interceptor that does 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds. How do I figure out how many feet I’ve traveled from 0-62 mph?
Assuming your acceleration is steady, 0 to 60 = 7.5 seconds...
5280' = 1 mile x 10 mph = 52,800' per hour / 3600 seconds = 14.67' * 1.25 seconds (1/6th of 7.5 sec.) = 18.33'
@ 18.33' = 10 mph**
@ 36.67' = 20 mph
@ 55' = 30 mph
@ 73.33' = 40 mph
@ 91.67' = 50 mph
@ 110' = 60 mph
Total 385' in 7.5 seconds
**This is close but, the vehicle doesn't start out at 10mph. I did the math in 10mph increments. You could get closer doing it in 1mph increments.
Took the car out last night and made 10 runs. From a stop, the best I could get it to go was 48 mph in 270’. No where near 62 mph. The reason for 270’ is that’s the distance it is from the stop sign on a 90 degree corner to the next street down where the cop claims he radared our son going 62 mph. We know this area well and knew there’s no way this is possible. We’re just trying to get as much info as possible for our court date coming up.
Probably was a mistake to let the cop have it. He made a mistake but probably gunners fault not his. If it were me, I would get a lawyer and challenge the radar gun. Did he actually show the reading on the gun to your son ?
Call the District Attorney's and set up an appointment. The DA makes the call before court. See what he/she might offer. I've heard of kids doing tutoring at the library as community service to clear tickets. Six points on a young person's license... insurance premiums would triple.
Hm.......Yeh, I think you have a pretty good case. Have you ever had your son face to face with the cop so the cop can see who he is and maybe not make the mistake next time ?It probably was a mistake on my part for laying into the cop, but when he came to our house the second time telling us our kid got into trouble again and is a trouble maker, it really pi**ed me off. Our son had been home with us that whole day. No, he did not show our son the radar gun.
