I'm 1800 miles from home right now and heading home soon pulling my 5th wheel. I have the pump that needs to be replaced.

I have a good dealer that I trust at home so I'm going to wait until I get there for the recall. I only have 35K on the truck and the pump appears good.

I check the temp of the pump with my Fluke IR gun on a regular basis and it never runs hotter than the rest of the engine so I think it will be OK. I am carrying a spare pump with a vent hole and antifreeze.

Oh, have faith in your pump! My ‘14 rolled 100K miles today on the original pump.

But on a sad note, as of this morning the plastic y pipe in the upper radiator hose is leaking.

Just ran across this on youtube. Need to watch to the end. No mention of a vent being needed, just the weep hole...sure is getting confusing...is the vent hole and weep hole one in the same?

Not sure who posted the video or his background, but I would stay with the information I posted a week or so ago. It's right off the recall. I have to believe anything else is just speculation. If in doubt, have the recall completed. You will either get a new pump or the OK.

results t-51 replacement at dealer
1:00 appointment arrived 12:42 to check in 1:03 check in compete , mechanic never did this before
3:45 told was ready ,depart dealership 4:05 .
About 10 miles & 15 min. Later on interstate low coolant comes on .
Attempted to notify dealership that I’m coming back, no response
4:45 back at dealership add coolant (about 3 quarts) depart dealership 5:15
Accident reroutes me and a normal 65 min. Trip turns into 90 min.
So much for a free replacement water pump.
Oh and loses a days pay also
But if the work holds up it’s all good

That's more than I would have expected from the y connector. I replaced mine at 40,500 just to be safe. I replaced it with aluminum.

You gong to do a coolant flush a little before your 150k recommended flush schedule?

Same story with my replacement. Appt. at 1:30, at 3:30 the service writer appears in the waiting room and declares that the pump after inspection does need replacing. Yeah, i knew that before i made the appt. Say’s it’ll be 5 - 5:30 before its done. Good thing I brought a 900 page book with me. At 5pm, its done. Rush hour traffic. Half way home the low coolant light comes on. Not gonna go back in this traffic. Get it home and add 3/4 gallon of previously purchased coolant. Wonder how much drained dirty coolant from the oil catch pan was dumped back into the the truck. Work order had no mention of using any new coolant.

The service Tec's have been told to catch the old coolant and reuse it. Ram is trying to save money every way they can on this one.

Just got my truck back from the dealer with the replacement water pump. There is no hole at the 11 o'clock position. Is it possible to install the pump upside down? The part number is CS2HT511AA. Thanks.

There are 2 suppliers, only the centric has the vent

I got another notice of recall, one for the water pump and another for the Transmission Brake Interlock. I also got one for a Emissions system software on my wife's 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's done still waiting for the parts to come in for the Ram Truck. We got both recalls in January.

The saga continues, day after my pump replacement I look under truck & guess what I find . About a shot of pink fluid. I grab some lights and craw under truck . I find droplets of antifreeze all over (took pictures) then wiped everything down . Now the reservoir is full to the max line ( cold engine) and that’s where it was when I left dealership for the second time Friday . So I figure the best case scenario is tec slopped antifreeze all over& didn’t rinse it off. Worst case I return to dealership.
FYI : new antifreeze was used or at least was written on the bill .the charge to FCA was $208

It’s been discussed on the other forum. I don’t know how he got this wrong but he did. Too bad, PIke usually gives out good info.

Reading comprehension,I’ve seen it happen in the shop on multi page recalls.Had a rookie in the shop use the wrong size drill bit for a frame rivnut......

Yes, I have an appointment on Thursday for the water pump and they’re going to flush the system.
Did you change just the upper y or the lower too? I changed my upper today with a billet one piece from Pure Diesel Power. I’ll change the lower this summer when it’s warmer out.

I only have 41,000 miles on the truck. I will wait on the lower y. It could last another 40-50k

I'd be curious to know how many are getting $200 of fresh coolant. I will post about mine at the end of the month.

Where do you get $200 for coolant? My dealer charges me $21 per gallon for concentrate. That’s about $240 less than your claim.

How can you have a cost that is $240 less than $200? That means the dealer pays you $40 to accept coolant?

To answer your quesrion, go back and read post #30. I rounded $208 to $200, because I was just posting a ballpark figure.

I Don't know if dealers are allowed to charge FCA retail prices. I know the dealers Don't charge FCA as much labor on recalls as they charge customers. That's why the rounding

I believe the $200 was total parts and labor, not just coolant.Recall parts are billed with a scary low price, labor is 1 hour iirc.
