Got the free 1 year trial subscription of UConnect on my 2017 2500. They sent me an email that the trial is about up...only $150.00 plus for year renewal. Has some nice features, but not sure it is worth over $150.00 a year.

Has anyone renewed? Is it like sat radio, can call and negotiate?

Thanks,

I saw no reason to renew UConnect. The only thing I ever use is the via mobile apps for Pandora and that service is (or was) a 5 year trial. After 5 years, I'll probably just just stream Pandora over bluetooth. Via mobile doesn't work half the time anyway.

If I remember correctly once the U-Connect expires you'll lose your voice commands, voice recognition for text messaging, U-Connect assistance and hands free phone operation. The 911 button will still work.

That's a bit incorrect.....the voice command for nav and climate control still work, hands free calling still works. Voice texting quits but there a number canned texts you can still send.

There is absolutely no negotiation with U-Connect like you can do with Sirius radio. U-Connect, at least for the past five years that I've had it, give you a take it or leave it decision. No coupons, no discounts, no good old boy price reductions at all.

I didn't continue after trial either. Some cool features but not worth the money.

Never used it the year I had it. Dont use the navigation either..its taken me off the main roads and down thru neighborhoods, what a waste of money! My phone gives me better directions.

I re-upped and I’ll do it again. Using the U-Connect app to send destinations to the Nav is simply the best workaround for not having use of the keyboard while moving. My wife has the app on her phone and when we travel, she searches for a destination and POW it is there.
Yelp is useless, the built in database is ok but that app is the bomb!

Viper alarm system, has the same **** as uconnect.only better i think

so with the Viper app...you can see your fuel level, tire pressure, oil life, current mileage, truck location, send destinations to your NAV unit so when you get in the truck you don't have to program the nav, remote start, remote lock, remote unlock...etc...all with the Viper?

The send n go feature. On the app on your iPhone, at the bottom of the screen should be three icons...one on the right down there is location. You can search for anything and it uses google maps to find it. Once you pick a destination, the app on you phone gives you the option of send to vehicle or call (if it's a business).

I use that to preload the Nav with my trip plans or as stated to get around the keyboard lockout while driving. For true hands free, I do use Yelp, since you can use the hands free with Yelp to verbally call out a business and then it'll send the location to your navigation system.

Having said all that, I do feel the navigation on the Uconnect system isn't bad, but it's not the greatest. The 2018s are supposed to have Apple CarPlay and I wish my 2017 had that. I helped put in a new head unit on my friend's daughter's FJ. The head unit has CarPlay and that is the bomb. All of the navigation, apps, and hands free stuff to keep your distractions from the road to a minimum while still being able to enjoy the technology.
