Thanks, I am not familiar enough with threads to know, but all that is listed that I found for 1" in a fine thread is either 12 or 14 threads per inch.

When you look up the Fleetguard filter it actually lists the Threads as Size: 1-16 UN-28. That is what I sent him and he knew what to do with the numbers. :) He recently moved so I'm waiting on him to get setup and back in business so I can get another one for me. One of these days my free dealership changes is going to run out so I'll need the tool. LOL Hope this helps. Just show the numbers to a machinist and he'll know what to do.

I was going to have a friend that runs a machine shop ,machine the threads, I was just going to give him the top off a filter ,and have him match it. Then I got the store bought one :)

Did your brother machine that cap from one piece , like the Geno cap ,or did he drill ,and tap the cap ,and add the threaded piece to it ?

The cap itself is all one piece. The hole for the eye ring is drilled and the cap threaded. He told me that once he got what I wanted figured in his mind it took him no time to turn one out. He makes a lot of custom machined fasteners for old harley's. I don't have a picture here but he did all custom extended stainless screws for my S & S carb on my `79 Harley.

sooo, just got to the end of this thread, I laughed, I cried, and I learned. But I have to ask.....and I'm NOT trying to get the battle going AGAIN. But say you were me, and you used 15-40 rotella in your 02 that you sold a while back (never had analysis done, nor the valve cover off to see how happy the 24v was), and you wanted an opinion on what oil and filter to use on your 2018 that should be showing up in April that you hope will be your "Last Truck Ever!" I live in Maryland

I use Delo 400 LE 15W40 and the 16035 Fleetguard Filter. The only oil samples I have done with 5 Cummins engines were the two B150's in our boat as we sold it at age 19 with 2650 hours. Both came back fine. The 93 RAM 7.5 years, 2001.5 RAM 14 years and the 2015 RAM have had mostly Delo oil and always Fleetguard filters.

Same as always for the past 20 years, mostly Rotella 15W-40, and the mopar filter with this Ram, but just bought a 3 pack of the Fleetguard 16035. Probably stay with the fleetguard now. I did use the Delo 400 LE this last oil change for the first time. I will probably stick to the two , whatever is on sale :D Rotella or Delo. This 2014 could be my last, and not a bit worried about the oil I use.

As you can see, there are many opinions on this. Some will say that some really good oils like Schaeffers and Amsoil will void your warranty, but I highly doubt that!

Use an oil that is for 2007+ engines so it won't plug your DPF (or mess up your SCR exhaust system). (Probably different than your 2002 because these oils didn't exist in their current form back then).

It also depends on your budget and use (how much hwy/city and how much towing?)

I have used Amsoil, Carquest (Warren Oil Co), Rotella T6, Delo, Kendall Super D XA (one of the best values in my opinion), Redline (The best diesel oil money can buy), Valvoline premium Blue Extreme, and whatever the dealer uses for the free oil changes that came with my new truck (I don't know if the bumper/bumper warranty still provides this for 2 years)... I think the dealer uses Pennzoil? That's what the service receipt said IIRC.

All are excellent oils. You can see (from the above list) I gravitate toward synthetics. But you may use Dino.

I prefer 15w-40 to 5w-40 because there can be fuel dilution of oil if your engine undergoes several active regens (DPF).... And if you do some city driving that doesn't get your oil hot enough to evaporate the fuel. Synthetics are just plain better. They flow better (all temps), generally have fewer additives (have a higher percentage of oil vs additive for every drop of oil), do a better job of cleaning and lubricating, don't break down under heat as fast, don't mix as easily with fuel or water that may get in the oil. Except when using biofuels/mixes, they mix with those.

And since I use mostly synthetics, I found there are some synthetic 15w/40 (redline) and synthetic blends (Kendall Super DXA) that have colder pour points and cold flowability than some 5w 40 oils.

What !!! Running Amsoil with that second best filter, would have never thought . :)

yep, for the compulsive oil changers among us, who take a selfie of their oil.. I also do it as proof of maintenance besides keeping my oil receipts.

Thanks, it looked like it was one piece. nice work. I have always been able to do that stuff before I retired. I worked in steel fabrication for just over 42 years. We had our own machine shop ,we could fab about anything like that. But those days are over, they shut our plant down a couple years ago, before that I could always go out ,and get something done although I was retired from there. Have to depend on my friend doing this stuff now.
