lets put it this way, they are cheap chinese crap.
I have aluminum rims manufactured by Lions Head on my 2015 Grand Design.
I noticed what I thought might be a crack in a spoke a year ago.

its cracked alright.!!! that thing reared its ugly head.
now get me, I know its chinese but it shouldn't fracture in normal use
and I know I didn't cause it, tire is on the left side of trailer.
they won't warranty it iether. apparently they can tell it was operator abuse from a few emailed photo's.
3rd photo you can see the beginnings of another failure of a spoke.
first two are of the one that is broken in two.
thask Lions Head. I'll make sure you get a good recommendation from me everywhere I go. LOL

email from Lions Head telling me its my fault... LOL

Thank you for the claim form and pictures. From the pictures provided, this would be a result of impact damage and would not be covered under warranty. There is an abrasion on the tire right above where the wheel is cracked.

I apologize I could not assist you with this request.

A complaint to the NTSB is in order. If it's an impact that ruined the rim the tire is also scrap. Suspension damage? You sent them a photo showing the tire? What are you replacing all of them with?

oh, its not impact damage, tire and rim are fine except where the substandard chinese aluminum is cracking.
I'm just going to get 4 Dexter Steel wheels and be done with it.

Since you are replacing wheels, and depending on the weight of your trailer it might be worthwhile to upgrade to a heavier wheel/tire combo like 17.5,s

The pictures appear to show a 6 bolt wheel rated at 3200 lbs, so probably a 16" The 17.5 would require an 8 bolt hub. Most 6 bolt axles are 5200 lb rated.

trailer has the 6000 pound Lippert Axles.. the brand that had all the grease seal leaks on the wheel hubs.

China is crippling us from within. I make a concerted effort each time I purchase something of importance to avoid chinese manufacture.

It would appear you have been travelling I81 in Pennsylvania. A poor excuse for a road. More like a mine field .

Sorry just venting. I know multiple cases 1st hand of broken and lost wheels , steel and aluminium Wilkes Barre to Binghamton this yr on return from Florida.

funny you resurrected this thread... we have beenon social media (facebook) with this subject and we got a several other people who had the same issue with their Lions Head rims.. and we got contacted by Tom Holt from Grand design about this... so it seems the squeaky wheel might get some grease

Another thought on this. Always check the rated load capacity of the wheel before you upgrade from the factory wheel . Often most of the rims are designed for a car and not for a heavy duty application on a big trailer or truck. not saying this was your case but I once looked into upgrading rims on my truck and found out very few of those nice looking rims are rated for a heavy duty application

resurrecting this thread from the dead. I purchased 4 new aluminum Dexstar rims, have 4 new Goodyear Endurance on the way and I yesterday heard from the RV manufacturer about my rim problem. I's been more than a month. They might do something about it, after a discussion with the RV builder it sounded like he was finding out that the rim manufacturer wasn't discosing problems they were having with these rims. wait and see.

We purchased a FR Cedar Creek Champagne model last year with this same brand wheels in 17.5". We pulled it 14k miles last year across country and many miles since then with "0" problems. 2 weeks ago we travelled to western NC and parked the RV in the campground. When packing up to go home I noticed one rear wheel was flat. Called roadside assistance and they changed out spare. When I got home I took the wheel/tire to local shop and they inflated to 100psi. Took it home and sat it in the garage. Next morning I took it to shop to inflate with nitrogen. He put guage on tire and it read "0". Took it to tire shop and asked them to find problem. Tire/wheel it totally unmarked with impact. They came rolling it out to me and said wheel is cracked. 1/4" crack that you can't hardly see. I looked on inside of wheel just across from crack and there is a casting defect about size of 1/4 of size of pencil eraser. Have new wheel ordered.

I sent photos of my cracked wheel to the manufacturer along with the warranty form and they told me today they were replacing the wheel along with $30.00 for tire install.

Black dots are defects in the casting and the crack began there. I trust that is why they are going to replace my wheel.
