It is interesting GM has developed a 3 liter inline 6 to go in the next generation Silverado!

At the same time Ram is sketchy about whether or not the EcoDiesel will continue in the next generation 1500. I have long wished for a straight 6 in a half ton pickup, it'll certainly be tempting to check out the new Silverado if/when the diesel option actually comes to fruition. But Robert Patton is right about the styling of the new Silverado, not very attractive if you ask me...too tall of front end with massively tall pushed-up strangely angular bumper and narrow grille with squinty headlights. The current generation Silverado looks far better. Good news is GM has hinted the engine may find its way into SUVs as well, hopefully they won't mess up the styling as badly on those. I do like styling of the current generation large SUVs GM offers.

Any word on who is building this engine?

The 2.0L in the Cruze is an Opel.

2.8L in the Colorado/Canyon is VM Motori.

6.6L is Isuzu.

GM is spreading the wealth!

Hmmmm a GM inline 6..... Ah the fond memory's of those Detroit 6-71's They just run forever....

And the 5.9/6.7 Cummins does not. Did you forget the forum that you are posting on.

As a kid in the Sea Scouts we put a gov surplus 6-71 in our ex USCG 38' picket boat. It still had the 90 injectors and we burned holes in two of the pistons running in battle mode to out run the local Coast Guard 40 footer. Marvel of engineering, we removed the head and then jacked up the front of the engine and changed pistons and liners in the boat.

Still nothing on this engine. Hmm, my bucks are on the Opel diesel engine being stretched out.

My horns got twisted (pun intended) when I saw the spy shot of the '19 Chevy in this GM blog. It just looks too much like the F150! Just like how I think the '19 Ram 1500 looks too much like the '18 Silverado.
So upset that these trucks are losing their identity.

I think the 19 1500's look aerodynamic and the polar opposite of the GM and Ford bricknose offerings.
The interiors of the higher end models look incredible. So much money though.

Never said the 5.9 or the 6.7 can't run forever. I've racked up well over a million miles behind the 5 that I have owned. By far the best engine ever built , The Cummins that is. I was just commenting on the new inline 6 that Gm has announced. Hey maybe they copied the Cummins? after all if you can't beat them copy them. That was Yamaha outboard's game plan and they are still sending copyright royalty's to Evenrude Those first V6 outboards were such a blatant copy you could un bolt parts from a Evenrude and bolt them right on the Yamaha. Even the things that Evenrude knew werea issue like the warm up lever on the side mount engine controll coming loose all the time would happen on the Yamaha copy.

There's no way that GM is designing a clean sheet engine with pushrods.

Never knew about the Evinrude/ Yam thing. Interesting.

Ford has a new v8 in the works to replace the V10 dubbed 7x. Speculation is it will be a push rod engine to make for a more compact design compared to OHC.

I'll believe that when I see it.
The last pushrod Ford gasser was the 3.0 Taurus engine. I've never known Ford to go backwards with technology, GM similarly.
Chrysler on the other hand, was always the last to give up on a idea. Did you ever view a 1957 354 Hemi next to the current 5.7 Hemi? Even the bore X Stroke is close.

If there's one market where a pushrod engine could shine is in the MD segment. No requirement for vvt, vct, cylinder deactivation, or any other reliability robbing tech to squeeze out an extra 1/10 mpg. Just good ol big cube big torque low rpm action . Perfect application for an OHV engine .

Yep, not many of us need a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. Those that do will still need a cummins. For the rest of us a 3.0 liter i6 will do fine. As long as it has a timing chain and not a belt like the ford v6 diesel or the VM 4 cylinder diesel in the Colorado it should be fine. I will probably lease one for 2 years to check it out. GM is really pummeling FIAT. The 5.3 gasser in the 1500 chevy is very efficient.

Too bad the cummins v8 5.0l is not in the 1/2 ton... I would not be looking at GM.

Competition is good, maybe it will force FIAT to use a small i5 or i6 cummins in the 1500 Dodge...

I just saw my buddy and his ‘17 ecodiesel. He’s quite picky, and almost told him not to do it. But he runs it hard and is happy. It was the first one I poked at under the hood. Not a terrible package really.

Get ready to hit me with a stick, but I'm personally waiting to see the new Silverado/Sierra arrive with the turbo gas 4cyl. May be the Ecoboost replacement in 21.5 months. Well, as long as they make the cabs bigger. The current GM line is not good for someone my size.

ask him if the owners manual shows a press fit for the Cam sprocket and high pressure pump on the drivers side cam... he will I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER his pants when he does not see a key...

I really like the Chevrolet Tahoe. A 3.0L inline 6 diesel would be sweet in it!
