Transfer case attempting to engage 4 low after key is turned off??? 2006 3500 5.9

You can hear it attempting to engage. any insight? I'm an old guy not used to these boards, so excuse me if this has been discussed before. I couldn't find anything with my searches. Please, I need help. Thanks kevin

Sounds like a good reason to stick with my manual selector. I had similar issues with my old truck's transfer case actuator. It would shift into 4 low all on its own. (Chevy)

My truck engaged 4 high at 50 mph with the Dyna Tracs unlocked. Talk about a "wham" when the t case went 0 to 50 in a nano second! Four wheel drive still works fine as far as I can tell, but if I have the hubs unlocked, the fuse is pulled. If I ever have to replace the t case, I will check to see if a manual case conversion is possible!

You have a problem with the shift motor or the other cause can be a short in the 5v circuit. The AC pressure transducer used to short out the 5v once in a while and cause it.

Go to a Dealer an let them read the Electronics with the Tester.
Transfercase is watched.
At the Gen.3 the 4x4 Das switch failed often. I carry one in mei boony box.

How would you prioritize troubleshooting? If the a/c transducer was the culprit, would I see any a/c symptoms? Is a short in the 5v system a possible tipm connector issue? I've heard of c130, where is that and is it associated? I appreciate your help. kevin

Possibly not any related symptoms. You can try unplugging the 5v sensors when it's doing it. Also tap into the 5v at the shift motor and watch if it fluctuates. C130 is one of the big connectors by the dip stick tube if I recall correctly.

Replaced the transfer case engage electric motor. $250 + 1hr of my time. Did not have to drop the driveshaft. Been three days now and no issues so far. Time will tell if I fixed a symptom, or the root cause.
