I use the fumoto valve. When it's finished draining I pull the fumoto and get almost another quart. Just my $0.02 worth

When I started this thread , my point was that Fumoto does not drain the amount of oil out that the OEM plug allows. Although I don't get another quart to drain ,but I do get just over a pint, which to me is too much to leave in there, especially when its pretty simple just to pull the Fumoto after its done draining. Of course some disagree, but Oh! well.

If you want to get the rest out of the pan put a hook on the end of a suction hose and suck the rest out.

I'm not interested in getting anymore oil out of there, I just think the Fumoto leaves too much oil in there. I like the Fumoto it makes it easy to drain, and removing is no big deal.

How much is too much????????

The 6.7 pan leaves about 8oz, is that too much or just the right amount to leave.

Think about it , what have done for years, we pull the plug let it drain out, whatever is left is acceptable, at least it is for me. Never gave it a thought. Now along comes these drain valves, that make it easier to drain, but now we have additional pint or so left in there, now according to you , now we have a quart .

I don't know the answer, but what I do know I can pull the drain valve ,and get out another pint or so, so WHY NOT. Thats as far as I am going to go, and YES I do put the ENTIRE 12 quarts back in.

I have a question for you , what is it you put back in, 11*5/8 quarts, what is too much for you to overfill ???????????. I'm guessing you feel thats worse then leaving in dirty oil ?????????

I am right on the full line by adding what I do when cold and on level surface. Why overfill??? Besides every 4 changes I have a free quart. Helps pay for that "overpriced AMZ/OIL" !!!

Why overfill, seri

Well, that sure makes sense. We all should follow that, if we ALL fell prey to AMZ/OIL :D

I have been tightening it until the pan flexes ever so slightly. The pan flexes easily. Some say spec torque is 44 ft lbs. But I think I've seen flex before reaching that torque. I will check with a torque wrench starting at 35 ft lbs to be safe.

Doing my fluid checks on my holiday today.

Do these torque specs look accurate?

I learned last year when topping off the front diff, not to guestimate because I had a "wet-looking cover around the fill plug" after changing and just hand tightening with a wrench. So I pulled the plug, refilled and I can't remember what torque I used last summer.

For the folks that are really concerned about the residual oil left after draining, why not drain, refill, run the truck for a few minutes, then drain again? That way your engine gets a nice flush of clean oil, and the second oil fill is perfectly clean. After all, oil is cheap and these engines are expensive.
