Yes, had this pop up last year in the middle of an 8,000 mile trip, towing the 5th wheel. Happened 2 or 3 times in two days. Turned it off (truck) and then back on and it went away each time. No 4wd used during the trip. Has not happened since then.

Yes I have the dial knob selector. Funny as it was raining when it happened. Sounds like a electrical connection issueDo you have the dial (knob) selector or the stick shift selector?

I believe the CAD actuator is also a cause (most common too?) for the service 4wd system message.....which is unrelated to the type of T-case shift mechanism.
I have the knob selector for 4wd. Also, no rain when this happened.Do you have the dial (knob) selector or the stick shift selector?
