So glad to see this Kneeling resolution

So that brings me to a question I have never remembered to ask before.....what voltages are used in military aircraft???

The most common, 24vdc,24vac,120vac,230vac either single (2 hots, or 3 phase), the AC voltages are 400 hz which allows motors etc. to be incredibly small and still do the work which also saves on weight. The B-52 has 4 3 phase AC generators and 2 Cartridge start engines (think a slow burn gun powder to start #4 and #6) without ground assistance (usually used on alert duty). The KC-135 has 3 3 phase generators engines 1 thru 3 and #4 engine has the cartridge start. The Cartridge start is 24vdc which was a regular test we had to do with 3 DC load lights tied together in parallel to make sure there was enough voltage to light off the powder.

So to make sure I'm picking up what you are puttin down....

The engines with cartridge start can then assist the remaining engines in starting without ground assistance???

Check this link out Mike. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...03C4E2E867770F6A536603C4E2E867770F6&FORM=VIRE The intervals in the video are rather lengthy compared to personal experience. I love the "elephant walk" where all the aircraft are lined up for their turn then line up on the runway and begin the takeoff roll while one is half way down the runway, and one is rotating into flight. Such magnificent precision.
Dave and I experienced numerous events like this. Loved SAC!
These are H models. The G models had water injection which added significant thrust on take off. See my avatar for the water injection smoke.

Yes, when any cart start engine was up to speed there was enough air from any of these engines to start the rest. It was always quite a show as 4 B-52's and 4 KC-135's would cart start on alert duty so there was quite the smell of gun powder in the air along with the smoke. Each aircraft also had ni-cad batteries (24vdc) with replaceable cells. Can't remember the exact amount I think 4 each on the Buff and 2 each on the KC. All engines on both aircraft had water injection used on takeoff for more thrust that gave that awesome black smoke like PBJ2500CTD avatar shows.

So at Loring at -20 zero a cart start would be interesting .... not to mention the flight crew sticking to everything in a stone cold mostly metal military aircraft....like sticking your tongue on a cold flagpole...???

Was there a cabin heat device that would operate without ground support??

Yes it was, I had to work on all the aircraft and none were heated so you had to find and fix the problems and be stone cold while doing it. They pulled me out of an alert KC one time when the wind chill was -70. Hell it took me 20 minutes to get in the plane with all the cold weather gear on and a tool bag. I had no sooner sat in the pilot's seat when they pulled me out. Looked like a cork in a pressurized bottle popping through that hatch. 10 mins later it was -69 and told to resume work.

Finally Update 12/05/18. Finally hit the halfway mark. 19 more to go. Hasn't been to awfully bad, the clear colon is easy, the bladder is another story to be at a minimum 500 on the ultrasound. It turns into a big lets play bladder control. So I drink quite a bit of water then when I can't stand it anymore let some out till in a bearable stage then drink and do it all over again. The actual procedure only lasts about 5 mins. including the everytime CT scan. Other than the constant no energy/stamina and taking a naproxen for each day for the inflamed inards from the radiation and the Azo pill for urinary burning it has not effected my appetite. The VA did give me my 6 Month man killer shot last week. From what I understand I will get 2 more of those over a 6 Month period and the VA will monitor my PSA for the next 2 years to make sure there is no cancer left or reoccurring.

There was another guy starting his treatments and had to stop as he could not get the prep straight ie. clear colon and minimum 500 cc (17oz.) fluid in the bladder with no gas. The Nurse told me the prostate treatments are the worst mainly for the prep and I agree it is not the easiest thing to do. The colon part for me is the easiest and I have Crohn's on top of it but the bladder part is the worst. They say he will be back in a few Month's to try again after he is done practicing. Everyone's body control is different but you really have to work on these and get it down to a routine. I go through the same exact sequence at the same exact time for the prep and only have shown up twice below the 500cc limit but nothing that chugging 34oz. of water did not solve in a 1/2hr. Then my eyeballs would float in the top of my sockets till they would mark a cup and tell me to let some out to this line. What a relief :D.

Hey send us your phone #. That way we can text you some really bad jokes just when you think you can't hold it anymore. Nothing like having to try and hold in a laugh when you got to go.....:D

It would be worse if it were raining.......

Funny you say that. That is exactly what it has done for the last 2 days, along with the cool weather and the wind, I have found it very difficult cupping the groin, crossing the legs and trying to walk all at the same time. No warm feeling going down the leg tho. Came close.
It probably would not be hard to track me down with the urinary tract pills that leave that bright orange tell tale trace.:D
