Checking rail fuel pressure

ttva and fuel filter housing questions

The 2 filters and the Cat will all interchange. This is a popular size filter. If you goto Cummins filtration, and plug in the new FF5814, it’ll note that it’s a upgrade from the FF5320, mainly because it has the stratapore media, which is supposedly more rugged and has better water trapping qualities.
BIG, no doubt the Cat filter is a quality piece- I can’t believe how overbuilt the cases are- but they’re expensive and harder to get for me, and I read that the media isn’t quite up to Fleetguard and Baldwin’s media.

I just checked in the garage when I got home and I have 2 FF5320's left on the shelf. I'll look in the the FF5814 when I use those.

Cat 1R 0750 Advanced is 2 mic absolute a couple of guys at work are into Tractor Pulling & Diesel Truck Drag racing said that Donaldson has an equivalent to the cat specs and their made here in IN, I don't know about the filter head being the same mine was bought from a Class 8 truck dealer and a mount was made. I like the Cat filter have seen them at MANY truck stops
Big,
Donaldson makes a lot of the Cat filters for Caterpillar, oil, air and diesel fuel. These are made to the Caterpillar requirements and tested and inspected for every lot purchased. When I retired there use to be a joint venture plant in IL for Caterpillar and Donaldson to make filters for both of them. This is very similar to the Mopar oil and fuel filters for the Cummins engine someone else makes them for Mopar, I think Fleetguard but I am not sure.

Reliable? Stone cold reliable?

I'm sorry but in my experience that is HORSESHIT. I'm on my third one 75,000 miles. The latest failure was yesterday.

The tow truck driver says it is the number one Cummins failure and he hauls a broken truck in at least every week after a lift pump failure. Second and third on the failure hit parade are water pumps and no warning catastrophic ball joint failures.

I bet you would find that fuel pump failures are the main cause of almost any vehicle being towed.

It’s also really hard to diagnose every truck you tow… I’ve never heard much aside from WAGs at best out of tow truck drivers. They love to tell you everything they know, wether it’s true or not. So I’d take that with a grain of salt, unless you’re talking about the filter mounted pump as that was a POS. :D

Sorry to hear of your luck. But to date with our 2 3rd gen 5.9's, there are now well over 500K miles on factory in-tank pumps with no issues. As I did way back in 2018 when I posted that in this thread, I'll still call that "Stone Cold Reliable" all day long.

As mentioned above, if you are referring to the block mounted lift pumps on the earlier trucks, then you are correct. Please post some additional details about your specific truck and we may be able to help you diagnose your ongoing issues.

Big; I too have the Glacier Diesel Big Line Kit on my truck. I installed this kit, Mar 0f 2010 after the primary fuel filter but ahead of the CP3 pump. View attachment 110081 View attachment 110082

I also use the stock Fleetguard fuel filter FF43258 which I purchase from Geno's Garage. I do purchase three filters of each part number to spread out the shipping cost. I have run this way for over 90K+ miles with no issues. The primary filter is changed every 15K and the secondary is changed every 30K miles. I have towed my 5er from UT to FL and up to ME using mainly truck stops for my fuel needs. I have never had any issues (knock on wood) with the fuel delivery to my engine. I do carry one extra fuel filter for both filters in my truck all of the time but so, far they are just dead weight.

Hey Jim, Where did you purchase your Big Line Kit and mount from?
