Has anyone had damage/discoloration to the plastic on the engine mounted fuel filter? Assuming this is from the heating element? Was also impressed that it’s multiple layers of filter media, at least the Mopar/Fleetguard product. 15k miles on this filter.

Have not had any recall work done yet, intend to schedule soon.

I’ve changed my filter once and didn’t notice anything but I wasn’t watching for it either. I’ll look when I change it again.

First pic shows what might be discoloration from water contamination action at the bottom of the filter, where the water separates to.
Second pic looks fine...don;t see what you are talking about.
Thirds pic-- I am confused...is that how the filter came out of the canister or is that what it looks like after you cut it apart to inspect it closer.

In short, discoloration is likely normal use...but I do NOT see/understand the "damage" that you are referring to.

I should state MN has Mandatory Bio-Diesel, and Flints Hills does NOT endorse any additive with its Blends.. check with local refinery before using additive.

Also decades of Fuel repairs and I've Never could confirm they work for lube or water properties.

I wasn’t looking for additive recommendations, even though power services is endorsed by Cummins, and likely is not causing thermal damage to the recommended Mopar filter.

I was thinking more along the lines of an overzealous heating element. I’ll see what the dealer has to say when they do the list of recalls on the truck.

Is there a heating element in the filter on 4th gens??

What about the "damage" in the 3rd pic??

Their is.. and if Memory serve Me it shuts down at 65F....Now I've hot wire the 3gen Canisters on My bypass setups so that required Me to test how hot it could get, the element could never get above 110F. Pictured 2003-07 5.9 Canister.

I certainly could be wrong but that doesn't look like heat damage to me. It looks like a chemical attack on the adhesive that the bottom of the filter is bonded to the filter media with.......... ????? Just thinking out loud.

I just did my fuel filter last week. The area you are concerned about is the top of the filter and the fuel heater is at the bottom of the filter housing as far as I can tell. I remember this so well because I wanted to shoot the SOB who came up with the plastic top of the engine mounted fuel filter...
