Shouldn't it shift to 2nd at @5-7 mph? It won't lock in first. But should lock in 2nd.
Depends on the engine load. At 20K GCW up a 8% grade at 10 mph I doubt it will shift.

The Aisin is reportedly indestructible. So just make sure you follow (and document that you follow) the maintenance schedule and use high quality ATM 4+ synthetic. Following the extreme duty maintenance schedule, you still have plenty of time and miles left on your power train warranty.
I don't think that is the AISIN spec. AMZ/OIL ATF does cover both the AISIN and 68RFE.
You're right. It has the rare mystery fluid that is not necessarily ATF 4+ or Dexron. But can also meet one or both of those specs.
Our 18 I ordered from the factory. You will be VERY unimpressed with the fuel mileage and the DEF system. Also, yes get the AISIN. Our 18 is currently in the shop for warranty. At 4400 miles the slave cylinder failed and took the clutch out with it. I ordered the manual to avoid issues, I was wrong. Funny thing is there is another truck in my area few weeks later, same exact problem as ours. Hopefully this will not be an ongoing issue. Never had trouble with the G56 in any of my 3rd Gen's.

This member had the same issue on a new truck:

AH64ID - What are you getting for mileage? We get 14 mpg avg according to the onboard computer, have not hand calculated. What you said a lot of other people have told me. Even the dealer had the balls to say "well you should have got the AISIN". I didn't want the AISIN! The manual has worked great for 30 years so why won't it work now. I prefer the manual, the slight power drop is an easy fix and they towed fine since they started using them in 05, not sure what's going on today.
That is exactly the problem we had and even the same delay with "back ordered" parts. How hard is it to get a clutch or hydraulics? Sounds like a cluster!!
If it happens again I'm putting in USA made hydraulics and clutch from Valair, if they won't agree to pay for it and honor warranty, they can take the truck back. If it can't tow a horse trailer, it is no good to me.
I bought mine (hydraulic assembly incl. Slave, Master, reservoir & hoses=single unit and part#) from a dealership that sells on ebay. $216 & free shipping. Just going to carry it as a spare since it seems some dealerships are having trouble ordering them.
I noticed a third party selling an aluminum slave/master and steel braided lines on YouTube. But didn't find someone selling it
Do you happen to have that part #?
I believe the steel braided HD hydraulics your talking about are the Valair and South Bend. I have used them before on 3rd gens, work great when upgrading to a solid flywheel.
