The Aisin is reportedly indestructible. So just make sure you follow (and document that you follow) the maintenance schedule and use high quality ATM 4+ synthetic. Following the extreme duty maintenance schedule, you still have plenty of time and miles left on your power train warranty.

I don't think that is the AISIN spec. AMZ/OIL ATF does cover both the AISIN and 68RFE.

Was going to post this on the 3rd gen forum, but it says (no engine/no transmission).

My nephew has been wanting a truck and was leaning toward a new Chevy Colorado. I texted him a listing of a 2006 2500 at a dealer in Bloomington for 25kish and wanted to know if 2006 was a good year. The truck has 97k on it so it is well broken in. Truck looks clean for the years from pictures.

He may think the cummins is more than he wants. (It is more than he needs). But Chevy Colorados are only automatic and he has grown fond of a classic F150 his friend has that is manual. Needless to say, the 2006 has a g56.... Probably the earlier g56 before they changed the gear ratios.

Did some reserch and came across this poll. Do you think the poll has legit preferences?

2006’s have always been popular, probably no less than a 07 5.9, but there are more 06’s.

06’s do have the early ratio G56.

I’m going to be listing dad’s 06 on Monday. It’s got a lot of the mods my 05 had, but not all.

160K miles, 10K on the motor.
QSB 480 pistons, injectors, and harmonic damper
GDP intake horn
ARP’s
Jacobs Exhaust Brake
UDC Pro tuned for heavy towing
G56, SBC SMF and Con-OHD
Yukon Spin Free Hubs
B&W Turn-over ball
Titan tow beast 2.5” hitch
Torklift camper tie downs
NEC double din stereo w/nav and b/u camera
Front seats have been covered since new, rear seats rarely down/used

Listing for 25K

Our 18 I ordered from the factory. You will be VERY unimpressed with the fuel mileage and the DEF system. Also, yes get the AISIN. Our 18 is currently in the shop for warranty. At 4400 miles the slave cylinder failed and took the clutch out with it. I ordered the manual to avoid issues, I was wrong. Funny thing is there is another truck in my area few weeks later, same exact problem as ours. Hopefully this will not be an ongoing issue. Never had trouble with the G56 in any of my 3rd Gen's.

Well so far I am very impressed with the fuel mileage, but no real towing yet. The empty mileage is better than my 05, but the drag on the ‘18 is lower, and the gearing is taller.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I did go Aisin to get the full power and best best towing trans.

The hydraulic assembly (slave/master cylinder with reservoir) in my 2013 has almost 53k on it (52788 mi) and no problems.

If you don't mind my asking, how did the slave cylinder take out the clutch?

I have heard of hydraulic assembly failing so i bought a spare to carry with me. Seems like an easy bolt on fix by the side of the road

AH64ID - What are you getting for mileage? We get 14 mpg avg according to the onboard computer, have not hand calculated. What you said a lot of other people have told me. Even the dealer had the balls to say "well you should have got the AISIN". I didn't want the AISIN! The manual has worked great for 30 years so why won't it work now. I prefer the manual, the slight power drop is an easy fix and they towed fine since they started using them in 05, not sure what's going on today.

Newsa - Have not actually seen the failed parts and the wife was pulling the horse trailer when it quit, so I can not answer that for sure. She went to shift into 5th to pull a hill and said it would just grind, so she tried to go back and it would not go into any gear. All I know is the dealer is replacing the hydraulic assembly, clutch, and the POS dual mass flywheel before the trucks first oil change. Pretty pathetic and I'm a real happy owner right now. Oh and we are at week 4 and still no truck. They give us a loaner but still.

That is exactly the problem we had and even the same delay with "back ordered" parts. How hard is it to get a clutch or hydraulics? Sounds like a cluster!!

If it happens again I'm putting in USA made hydraulics and clutch from Valair, if they won't agree to pay for it and honor warranty, they can take the truck back. If it can't tow a horse trailer, it is no good to me.

I only have driven it 1,000 miles, but my first two tanks were 17-18 and a lot of that was above 70-75 on the interstate.

This tank is lower, but I also have some around town towing so I am not surprised with the ~14 that it's at now.

I had a NV5600 for almost 12 years so it was weird shopping for an Auto, but the Aisin is more trans than a G56 and should last longer, with more power, and less maintenance. It's a shame that FCA couldn't come up with a 7 speed manual and a good clutch to hold the 930 lb/ft, but they didn't. I certainly wouldn't want to put the full Aisin power thru a G56 at max GCWR.

I bought mine (hydraulic assembly incl. Slave, Master, reservoir & hoses=single unit and part#) from a dealership that sells on ebay. $216 & free shipping. Just going to carry it as a spare since it seems some dealerships are having trouble ordering them.

I noticed a third party selling an aluminum slave/master and steel braided lines on YouTube. But didn't find someone selling it

Do you happen to have that part #?

I believe the steel braided HD hydraulics your talking about are the Valair and South Bend. I have used them before on 3rd gens, work great when upgrading to a solid flywheel.

I think i got the last one for $216.00. I doubt it is something they normally stock.
Part # 55366325AF. It supercedes other part#'s

Did my first longer tow this past weekend.

I am quite impressed with the truck. It handled the weight like it wasn't there. Overall it was effortless on winding mountain roads.

The 6.7 has more power from idle thru 2000 rpms than my 05 did, and I think the same or slightly less from 2200-2500 but it's hard to tell as the gearing is also difference (taller gears and larger tires). I haven't had the need to run it higher, and really it rarely went above 2000-2200 anyhow.

The auto-level suspension is awesome and worth it for anyone considering a 2015+ 3500. I loaded up the quads and the trailer, climbed in and hit "ALT Trailer Height" and the rear drops just over an inch to engage the HD overloads. It sits perfectly level all the time in this mode. The ride is stable and comfortable at the SRW RAWR. No appreciable body/suspension sway.

Fuel economy was about the same as the 05 on the same trip, at just over 10.5... can't complain about that considering all the emissions on this thing.

It was a little different dealing with an auto, but I was happy to have it as we meandered thru traffic leaving town. The programming is quite good, as it will allow the engine to hold 90-100% load in 4th without downshifting if the truck is holding speed. It didn't ever hunt for gears, and never was in the wrong gear.

The auto and the exhaust brake is nice, but I still find myself selecting gears manually.... thou that's likely more habit that anything.

The integrated brake controller is proportional to the pedal position, like the max brake I had on my 05, and it works very well. The truck keeps track of the miles towing, so as soon as the brakes are disconnected the trailer odo stops recording. I thought that was kinda cool as I have always tracked my towing mile. The trailer does need new brakes, and will get them before my next trip. They just didn't show up in time.

The family was much happier with more room and a quieter ride. It was easy to hear the audiobooks and carry on different conversations front and rear.
