Finally made it around to Cummins

well boys okay I drove the Laramie mega cab truck with the spring suspension and it wrote a lot better than the air powered limited to 2 wheel rear two-wheel rear-drive and instead of the dually but yeah it Road a bit better but still was fairly rough so I drove a 3500 mega cab truck now this truck did have the 68rfe so what was it I I must say that the transmission actually felt better it was smoother and no problems at all just you know going nice and slow we are the icing would jolt you and shake you going nice and slow so a bit disappointed I thought it would have rode a lot nicer but again I repeat and I'm using voice to text so for any mistakes I drove a Laramie mega cab two rear wheel to wheel you know two wheel wheel not a dually but a2 rear wheel single rear wheel and it did ride better but not that great and spring Ride so I've got a decision to make now my wife says well maybe just get the limited single rear wheel drive so I'm working on a guys hope you're all well but yeah at this point I have more questions than answers and what I drove was a very basic truck it was just a Laramie leather inexpensive $65,000 with their discounts truck so it was a lot less than a limited in a single rear wheel but I was only able to get the tire pressure down to about 75 so if we went down 2:50 p.m. buy it probably would have rode like a nice Cadillac who knows all right guys give me your input and thanks so much.

oh by the way it was a 68rfe transmission with the 373 drive now I forgot to mention we were only able to get the PSI of the tires down to 75 so I'm very much interested in seeing what happens if we go down to 50 psi in those tires and how it would feel I like the spring Ride better it was more easy you know any easier ride so that's just my opinion. I appreciate all your help and I'm very impressed with the 68rfe and the 373 it felt great.

I think the 68rfe and the 373 would do a good job with the RV fifth wheel that I'm looking at that is 14000 pounds total and about 3,000 pounds on the real rear wheels so to speak.

Anybody that has experience with running the rear tires at 50 psi or below on a SRW 3500 megacab none air suspension truck please give me a call here is my cell number 4342515007.

I was quite impressed with the 68RFE transmission.

yes to be very Frank I was very impressed with how smooth the shifts were now of course this is with no load just an empty truck but it really really seemed to do a great job I will hope that it does a good job with a 14000 pound camper will see an RV in a fifth wheel but I was very impressed I just wish I could get it in a single rear wheel with the 410 gear ratio and then it would be absolutely killer.

I can't say that I have experience on the newer fourth gen trucks with the air ride/leaf springs suspension that they have. But I do know for a fact that my 2008, 2500 Mega Cab, third gen truck will ride rough when the tires are aired up the maximum inflation pressure and no load in the bed. For my model year the 3500 and 2500 trucks are almost identical except for a helper leaf spring in the rear leaf spring pack on the 3500 trucks SRW.

That is why I air them down to 45PSI (rear) with the stock Michelins LT 265/70R/17E tires in the winter months. My summer tires are Nitto Dura Grappler LT 285/70R/17 126R tires. I use a tire air inflation table for the weight that the truck is supporting when I need to inflate them over 50PSI. Otherwise this is my tire pressure when empty. The ride is so, so, so, much improved at the lower pressures my wife does not object to the truck ride.

But you do need to realize this will never be a high end type car ride it is still a truck.

Yes I realize its a truck I dont expect it to ride like a car, however without a load in the back the Megacab is just bouncing all over the place because of the air pressure.
Now if we had 3000 pound pin weight on from a fifth wheel it would ride pretty well.

I did a spec on this truck this morning and my wife said she wants a limited and she is paying for it so she WILL GET IT lol and its her money.

Is the adaptive Cruise control standard at the Limited?
If not I would order it if possible.
Also the heated steering wheel.

This to things I'll always order for my cars since I had them the first time. For me 2 must haves.

2 cents more for a total of 4. Pick the truck with the best UNLOADED ride. Everything smooths out with a load. My 5500 with biggest spring pack offered by Ram rides pretty decent because steel tow body, tools, turnover ball hitch, and 112 gal fuel adding ~4.2K Lbs to make truck weigh 12.2Klbs. Then, I add 4.5K Lbs more when I hitch up 5er, and i have very smooth ride.

Trust your hind side Stuart Skywalker, it'll tell you the true answer.:D

Cheers, Ron

Oh I spoke to Mr Truck from youtube and he said the 68RFE will be fine for what I want to do and pulling the fifth wheel he said 99 percent of the guys tearing up the 68 transmission are boosting the HP 100 hp or more and driving like idiots and racing around like they have a Dodge Demon lol.
He said even in the Rockies going to Sonoma Ca I will be fine plus without a trailer its much smoother.
He did say they have really improved the 68 a bunch and if all these guys were getting new trannys under warranty they would be broke or used another type of transmission he thinks for pulling a 14000 pound trailer I would be fine just dont try to go up hills at 70 mph with the fifth wheel.

Nice truck! nothing wrong with saving some bucks. My 5500 is a Laramie and I'm a happy camper. I like saving money and save $10K to $15K everytime I buy.

Go for it!

Cheers, Ron

I'm showing max trailer weight is 21.5K. Is that what you see too?

Only thing I don't see is 5th wheel prep. Not sure what's entailed to add aftermarket or deal adding with dealer.

Well guys still working on ordering a nice truck but I will be going with the Aisin looks like I will be paying about 70,000 with good discounts I spoke to ATS and Suncoast diesel about the problems with the 68RFE and both said if I keep the truck stock it should last 100,000 miles and I should be fine but I just dont want any problems and the 2000 dollar difference with discounts is cheap insurance against some sort of a breakdown.

Sounds like they were working on a future customer
