Going to drop pan and replace transmission filter in 2017 3500. I hear that access to a few bolts a pain. Any special tools needed and is there a better pan to replace the stock pan

Since you’re referencing some difficulty with some select transmission pan bolts, I’m assuming you have the AS69RC?

My 2014 RAM 3500 was a little difficult in accessing the pan bolts. I opted to drop the crossmember down. Others with some 2015’s and 2016’s have encountered less trouble with the pan bolt removal, possibibly due to some slight manufacturing tolerances changes with the crossmember itself.

In any event....I did install a PML transmission pan in my 2018 RAM 4500 Cab and Chassis.

If you have the AISIN simply remove trans crossmember bolts and jack it up til it bottoms out. Use a 10mm universal socket 1/4” drive. Use contact gasket cement to secure gasket to pan so holes align.

Just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean it can’t be done. All you’ve got to do is look at some of Brockmans prev posts. He takes excellent photos.

Just changed the oil and filters and installed a Mag Hytec pan. Went to home depot and bought a plastic mud pan for concrete mixing and used it as a drain pan which can get messy. Had to loosen a cooler line to install the new pan. Wasn't a hard job and I am 70 yrs old. Trans is the 68RFE

OK do you guys have a 4500/5500 like he does? You don't use universal socket or universal between the extension and socket?

GS, what say you???

Did you do a fluid exchange?

Why am I writing to someone who can’t read . What I drive is plain as day. No swivel. 1/4 drive 10mil on a 6 inch extension. A swivel only complicates an easy job.

So what do you have to say about GS since he couldn't even do it by raising the trans and had to drop the cross member.

I wanted him to reply but NIsaacs thanks for the link.

Would love to see you do it jhenderson!

I will be helping SnoKing do his trans service soon. I will post a pic of trying to remove one of those bolts. The hardest part is replacing them.

Did you bother to read the text in Greg’s post ? Obviously not. Typical. Someone aught to video the two of you on that project. The entertainment value would be incalculable.

What am I missing? The fact he did not mention trying a soscet and extension?

If he would respond I’m betting he tried the socket extension combo.
