I have a tech that owns an 04.5 CTD. Been out of commission most of the summer as he had the engine and transmission harnesses melt while towing his RV.

Insurance adjuster has been looking for one with no joy. Our local Ram dealer is no help at all.

I am very concerned where this is an 04.5 as Ram changed some things right in that age range. So to me we at least need a valid part number for both the engine and transmission harnesses. The engine harness may be available through Cummins or at the least I may find a solid part number. I'm going to try that later on today.

I doubt these can be purchased new but if we had correct part numbers we might score with a salvage yard that understands Rams...I think I've seen a few mentioned on here over the years..

So if any of you know an Expert Level Parts Guy or have contacts within Ram that could help us out that would be great.

Truck Vin is 3D7KU28C34G181271.

Thanks!!!

If he has the 600 Engine then it is a 04.5 like mine. And yes many differences between 04 and 04.5
Need my vin to?

As far as an Expert Level Parts Guy, try mwilson here on TDR. He's GREAT.

OH, wait a minute,. That's YOU......;)

If you'll take used, contact "odieub", Brett Dennison, here on TDR or Mark Nixon, 402-780-5127. They both deal in a lot of part-out's and may have what you need.

Thanks Scott!!! I knew I'd seen something on the past about good sources. He will be happy with used...

You know if I'm raising my hand that it's bad......:D

Don’t know if this helps but back in my dealership days we could order wiring harnesses for everything except imperial. We had to make them don’t know if that’s a possiblity or solution

Look at the build date and the engine tag, accessories is a poor way to tell what version it is. I do not think these is much if any difference in an MY 04 engine harness, really only changed significantly in MY 05. All 04 engines used an APPS and pretty much the same wiring. The ECM's are different but it is all programming. The hard parts are different in the engine but that has no bearing on the actual wiring. You will need to know if it is engine mounted APPS or under the driver battery, those pig tails are different and length\location is different..
