RAM 2015 problems

Yes I did but I dont like the Ram 5th wheel prep the bw 1320 is much better

Then why was it part of your spec list at the beginning of your old thread?

My dad has a BW1320 in his '17 and I have the 5er prep in my '18. I'd take the 5er prep hands down over the BW. The BW is great, the 5er prep is better.

I understand I just tend to like the gooseneck as you know because I am a Andersen ultimate 5th wheel connection dealer so I have to use what I can use and believe it or not some reason Kernersville never well not never but barely ever puts the fifth wheel prep in there they sell lots and lots of these BMW 1320s in fact the guy of Kernersville said they sell about 50 of those a month whether that's true I don't know but I love the BMW it works great with the Anderson yes and I know some guys don't like the Anderson but I do.

They prefer the B&W because they make a LOT more money installing it than the 5er prep. Other dealers do the same thing.

They can also install the OEM 5er prep, which includes a GN hitch.

That Anderson is a disaster waiting to happen, IMHO. It's just not a great design.

Since this thread has drifted from 68rfe to hitch setups, i have a question.

Isn't better to get the stock setup (GN/5er) factory stock puck setup to protect against rust intrusion when the dealer cuts a hole in the bed?

It seems the factory would do this before applying the paint? Or am I totally off base thinking that?

I bought a 2013 which was before the factory puck option showed up for 2500's. So i installed a unagoose 5th wheel which i am completely happy with. But i cut my own hole in the bed and hoisted that 40 lb thing up and bolted it in place myself. What i have is a great hitch. But they since went out of business despite being significantly stronger than anything B&W or Curt or any of the other high volume producers make. The unagoose model was tested to 40,000 lbs down weight and pulling a 60,000 lb trailer. Much more than any HD truck will pull but i wanted something with less flex in my hitch than the typical hitch provides.

60,000 lb trailer and 40,000 tongue weight? What size ball was that?
From what I have seen a 2-5/16 ball is good for up to 30,000 lbs towing depending on manufacturer. I don't know that I've seen a 3" ball rated for any more than 40,000. That's GTW, not pin weight.

I don't know how they tested it. And their website is no longer active.

But when the website was up, this was what it said:
I was off on the load weight.... Acrually quite a bit off.

I have only the 2-5/16 in ball. They used to also sell a larger ball, i think?

"Rated" and "tested to" are very different. In the lifting industry a rigging device - wether it be a sling, hook, shackle or masterlink has to have a 5x safety factor built in. If a sling is rated for 30k it's breaking strength must be a minimum of 150,000. But that doesn't mean to go ahead and load it to 150,000. The safety factor is there for a reason in both lifting devices and towing.

Yeah. That makes sense. I just liked the robustness (if that is a word) of it and i'm sure it will outlast the truck...... Even if someday i sell it

DIFFERENCE 15013

THATS A BUNCH OF CASH ONE HAS 68RFE THE OTHER HAS AISIN.

Both have 4.10 axle ratio.

I want my wife to see these numbers so we can agree to what to buy.

The Jayco 377RLBH is OTD 65174 that is with the washer dryer combo one peace unit and the Lippert Trailair pinbox.

Please no negative guys just showing my wife the figures she will be looking at this post tonight.

I am just thinking out loud here I spoke to ATS, REVMAX and SUNCOAST regarding to viability of the 68RFE Suncoast said its a peace of JUNK the others said its ok in a stock power truck and towing a 15000 fifth wheel and since there is a 100000 mile warranty I should be ok.

Thanks guys I need to sleep on this major decision.

You’re not locked to either of those trucks. The major difference is the Aisin/HO Cummins, maybe $1500 total. It’s the trim levels and other options that get you.

Got to Ram’s site, build your truck, and get a quote or order it. Don’t settle, don’t over compromise.

I can’t recommend the Aisin enough. It reminds you it’s a truck and real HD transmission. The 68 may be good enough, but for far less than your mods you get a heavier duty trans, more power, and it’s all under factory warranty.

Got get one buddy. ;)

I was at the dealer a week ago and it looked like the 2018's were much better prices even before rebates. 2018 Laramie stickered at just under $70k. It had a few dealer add-ons bringing it to $72k.

My 2013 ST (basically a tradesman with a few upgrades) stickered at $49 back in 2013

Is the lippert trailer pin box a trailer option or an accessory? Can you post what that is?

The 68RFE truck on the link has a 3:73 axle. I thought they only put the 4:10 with the AISIN for 38K GCVWR towing? Probably wrong. (Does show 4:10 closer look.)
