I have 3 lights out, no big deal, I have changed bulbs before. This time I decided to get cute. I bought LED replacements for the tailgate light bar, the fender flairs and the markers on the roof. Hoping this to be the last bulb change. Tailgate light bar is done, one flair is done the other will be soon. Now on to the cab lights. Of course, I have to modify the wiring. Has anyone done this? If so, can I get at everything I need by pulling the lights or does the headliner have to come down.

2004 - 3500 - Double cab.

Thank You
Andy

why do you have to modify the wiring on the cab lights? LEDs are polarity sensitive so might want to turn on after installing to verify. In installed LEDs in my former 03 no problems.

Cheers, Ron

Andy,

Why do you have to modify the wiring?? They are not a push in 168 replacement??

The socket and harness will come up a little when you remove the screws and each light but not a lot of slack in the wiring as I recall on my '06...

Thank you - I'm not just putting in LED bulbs. I'm replacing all around with the "Smoked" Led fixtures that only show color when on.

My waterproof connectors should be here tomorrow. I can easily fab a harness, all I need is a few inches of wire to hook into.

I installed black ones that shined orange... had smoked headlights and taillights, and 5 black LED side marker lights each side on the running boards.

Gotcha'!! I think the harness comes up the LH pillar so you could remove all 5 lights and release the sockets. Then you could hook a long zip tie to each so you could drop four into the roof to get more slack for the one you are splicing, repeat, repeat....
If the one on the far right is tight put a longer fishwire or something on it, then drag it up through the next marker light hole over to get slack. Then add a few inches of wire and drag it back to the right with the fishtape...

Just some ideas.....

Thank you both.

I sort of figured it would be something like that.

I really appreciate the help.

Whichever side it comes up, I'm thinking tie a string on the far end and snake it out so I have something to pull it back in with. Then either change connectors or fab a new harness.

It is not that complicated to drop the headliner anyway, of you need to - check youtube for it.
It's done in 15 Minutes.
As easy as pulling a door panel.

Ozymandias - Thank you.
I have some other things in mind that will be much easier with the headliner down. Also, it's always good to have a backup plan.

Pictures, huh? OK

I've never had luck with generic/superbrightled bulbs lasting in exterior bulb applications.

For 194/168 bulbs, I've had great success with the well built Philips LEDs, they're a very rich true amber.
