I took my 2004.5 back to the shop that rebuilt the 5.9 earlier this year, for a leaky oil-drain tube & heater hose and while they had it I told them to install a new MM3 from Smarty and a Quad boost-fooler. I'm using the engine & trans tunes from Diesel Camper (Rob). Got the truck back and everything is good. Much better shift points on the new BD trans (the 2-3 shuttle-shifts are gone) and the 5.9 Cummins has come-alive! The question I have is about the 'boost-fooler'. The MM3 shows boost-pressures maxing out at 25psi. Quad says the psi's should top out well into the 30's with the BF in-place. Before I head back to the shop to have their tech's look at the BF, I'd like some input from others who have experience in this arena. Could the MM3 gauge be reading 'low' due to the BF being installed? Should I run a mechanical boost-gauge into the cab for a 2nd-monitor? Thoughts?

You should not need a boost fooler with the MM3 tunes installed. If it throws codes they need to go back and fix their tune to extend the boost table and turn off the WG controller control.

Exactly! Thou I usually only kill the WG controller if it’s removed.

Take the boost fooler off and return it.

I’ve tuned more than a few trucks with MM3’s and never needed a boost fooler, since full custom tuning eliminates the need.

The boost fooler is why you’re not seeing boost, as the MM3 gets the fooled signal.

Ah....grasshoppa! I thought that might have something to do with it. Seat-of-the-pants felt like more than 25psi.
No CEL codes.....yet...but I'll pull the BF as recommended.
Thanks Cerb & AH64ID.

Update: Got the truck back...oil leaks fixed...'boost-fooler' removed and voila! Runs great. The MM3 shows upwards of 34psi boost now instead of topping out at 25psi and I've got less smoke. The boost-fooler was the 'cause' in this instance. It's a nice 'option' if you don't run a box that controls the wastegate...but otherwise....it de-rated performance and increased smoke in my case. Maybe I missed it but I read the installation instructions for the MM3 and the Quad boost-fooler and found no reference to an 'interference-problem' when used in this particular combination. Lesson learned. One or the other...not 'both'.
