Well it’s good advice on the 3500 srw. They didn’t make 1 ton srw back in 1999. Only duallys or i would have had one. In the winter you need winter tires here and then summer tires too Dulles don’t do well in snow and icey roads. Plus fitting in my garage. I only have camper on for a couple months in the summer as well so maybe 30 k out of 170 k in 20 some years. Just a good guess on my part so I have a 99 2500 that hauls a wet weight camper 2800 3000 lbs wet and pull a trailer of about 1500 lbs so about 150-200 lbs tongue weight. I have firestone airbags in the rear and rancho adjustable shocks and use the bd exhaust brake to slow it down. Seems to do ok The bd was expensive but has saved me couple times when folks pull out in front of me or I’m not paying attention paid for itself over the years

And in 1999 there was a paper in my new truck that said slide in camper 1750. So I’m a bit over but strange enough when I put the 3000 down on the truck it doesn’t even sink down. And the roads in Alaska can be pretty rough at times and for 30 k miles pretty amazing and I drive it with great care

Current trucks are significantly heavier from the factory....so you lose that added weight from the payload compared to an older truck ...when combined with the fact that the factory has to stay under 10k for the class designation.

My cousin was a truck salesman as long as I can remember. He kept meticulous records of his customers and their preferences. When he switched employers and manufacturers he’d take ordering info home with him to study for a few days so he’d never get caught having to say “ I’ll have to look that up/ I’ll get back to you on that”. That’s my reference point for a professional salesperson. As far as I can tell they’re few and far between these days.

Turbo Terry, take a look at the door sticker. This has the auto level air system. I think you’ll have no issue with 12,300 GVWR

You can get a 2500 and put timbren suspension enhancements on it

More comment on this. When buying new one should assure they buy the right tool. Now if one already owns the tool and wants to carry more than it was intended for, people start adding after market aids. Except for Ford's which all seem to need air bags.
