I would sure be nice if there was a map of every state with a breakdown of the counties within that state who have smog laws.....because such a map would be handy for whenever (if ever) I can flee from CA.

I can tell you of 2. Northern Az (Coconino County), No safety, no smog, up to 5 year registration. Minot ND, no safety or smog.

Can't wait to sit in line to have sniff-testers get confused with this new truck. Such a waste of time and money to have an IM program here in Davidson county. I can throw a rock at Cheatham county, but couldn't find a decent place when were on the market. Half the taxes there too.

When did you guys buy? Got to be rich to buy in Metro now.

From what I understand, they’re doing away with all emissions testing except in Metro Davidson county, and they’re only keeping it there because they still have time left on the contract.

You guys need to list where you live because everyone is mentioning their counties but I have no idea where they are...! Lots of counties in the US with the same name.

Sorry. Posted earlier.

Well, Tennessee’s been great to me and as long as you don’t live in Nashville/Metro Davidson County or a couple of surrounding counties you won’t have to worry about emissions testing. No income tax, either.

We bought in January 2010, been here 10 years. Love the place but could honestly use a shop. Maybe I should look into moving.... Ugh...just saying that makes me feel ill.

Here in Tx you drive in , honk horn, turn on lights , turn signals and brake lights, pay 7.50 and drive out
That's all well and fine but a friend just drove westbound across Texas and said the roads were worse than California. He had a death grip going in much of the state. This guy travels all over the country.
On the other hand, with the taxes we pay here our roads should be paved in gold.

California taxes are divided up in a kitty system whereby demographics determine the money. So even though the north state pays a tremendous amount of money in the highest taxed state in the nation...we drive on some seriously crappy roads merely because there are less people than the major city areas. But I'm sure our legislators will find more and more ways to trick the voters into thinking whatever new tax bill on the ballet will benefit the roads. ;)

It's lousy in San Diego county. The gas tax shouldn't be funding the Browndoggle. Our council here approved $259 million of bike paths wiping out parking for small businesses. All to appease the 1% cyclist population. Crazy arse stuff going on in California.
We visited a relative in Ormond Beach,Fla and the surface streets even were better. Super low taxes but lots of toll roads.

IN has nothing but pay your registration BY MAIL :D or if you need some human contact you can drive to the BMV and pay. Funny we paid for 5 cars & several trailers for less than what we would have paid to register the Dodge alone in commiefornia

SORRY 4 CARS

I figured it was a while ago, before the big boom in Davidson County. Personally I would hate to think I needed to buy a place pretty much anywhere in Middle TN.

I read a story yesterday where CA is considering a total ban on gas powered lawn equipment like mowers, trimmers, chain saws, blowers, etc. The article quoted someone that said that a blower running for one hour put out the same emissions as a Toyota Camry does in 1,100 miles.

So what will all the illegal Mexican Gardner's use? They had the leaf blower ban before we left nobody paid any attention to it. It was a Noise violation

Just clarifying, are you saying its not good in the middle of TN? That state is high on my somewhere to move to list when I can get out of CA.

No, no, no. It’s a wonderful place to live. I’m talking about the price of real estate now vs. 10-15 yeasts ago. The value of properties in and around Nashville have gone through the roof in the past 10-15 years.

I have a friend that bought a place in the late ‘60’s that’s a couple miles from downtown Nashville for $40K. Last month he was offed $375K for it. In ‘92 I bought my old farm house and 16 acres that’s 25 miles north of Nashville for $50K. Now, I’ve made improvements, added a couple of rooms, renovated the rest of the house, central heat and air, etc. but, I also sold 2.5 acres. Our last tax assessment puts me at $250K

Find the state of Ohio and look for the most North Eastern county in the state. PA borders to the east, Lake Erie to the north. No safety inspection, no smog. Registration for my 14 3500 just cost me a whopping $300....for the next 5 years. You can register annual, every two years or every 5.

People that have never been here before ask why/how things are so cheap....it's because nobody wants to live here :D Industry used to be phenomenal having 3 major ports on the Great Lakes super highway, under lake mines, phenomenal growing seasons with extremely fertile soil the glaciers pushed up. I have the biggest natural blue berries and black berries right on my property that you'll see outside of a store. Along with various apple, peach, and Asian pear. Industry has long since disappeared. I will say in the last two years we have seen more activity than the last 15 combined. New industry moving in including the first pig iron refinery in the country right on the Lake, within eye sight of our cooling water pump station.
But I really like living in an area where nobody else wants to be. So many hidden treasures living on Erie. 4 beautiful seasons. It's perfect just the way it is. People really tend to screw that up.

At least you're honest. :D

I spent alot of my youth living in rural Wyoming, it is similar there. Lots of beautiful country surrounding you but the winter is long and unless you were born into money it's dang hard making a living. Two things attract people to an area more than anything, weather and opportunity. Wyoming and Ohio are both lacking in those areas.

Well, if you like various weather, TN is the place for you. There will be a few times every winter when the temp is below 0* and generally we get at least one decent snow. There will be a few days in the summer over 100*. Rainfall can be average to heavy, 2019 was one of the wettest on record. We have floods, tornadoes, thunderstorms, frost, ice, snow, earthquakes, you name it. If you don't like the weather here, just hang around an hour or two and it will change.
