I try to catch the US Retail Truck Sales report in HDT Magazine when I can. In the Class 3, 4, 5 range it has been Ram and Ferd neck and neck at around 40% each, and GM wheezing along around 10%. The January issue shows the November report, and Ram actually pulled a respectable lead on Ferd. I thought GM might get a little bump from their Navistar experiment, but not so much. Naturally, these things can jump around, but I find it pretty interesting.

Isn’t that for commercial trucks, like C&C’s, as an example, tow trucks in the last category.
I don't think it specifies the type of registration, just GVWR. So, 10,001 and up GVW would include some commercial stuff, no doubt, but would also include my truck, and Wiredawg's 5500. Even on the Class 7 or 8, if Wiredawg bought me a Renegade Super C on a Cascadia chassis(Thanks, Ron!)it would not be commercial. HDT Mag would have to clarify it, I guess.

Looking at the GMC numbers, it must be commercial at 3.71%

I don't think they differentiate commercial vs non-commercial, just the vehicle class.

GM combined is 12% of the Class 3,4,5 market.

Didn't GM get out of the Class 4,5 market for bit? I know I see a lot more F-450/550's and Ram 4500/5500's than GM stuff in that size.

I see the GM/Nav love child on lots, but not working yet.

I do think I figured out who’s getting the lightweight Pete’s. It’s a Armored car outfit by me named Garda.

I have seen a couple of the Chevy cab and chassis running around here. I really wonder what was going on in the heads of GM's design department with those and their new generation 2500/3500s. It's like they decided to throw the ugly stick away and get a big ugly sledgehammer out and work it over. For the most part around here it's Ram for the commercial use in the class 3 through 5. Class 8 is mostly Freightliner or Kenworth for the big fleets, though some are going to International; mine is starting run a few with the ISX 15 Cummins and 12 speed Eaton autoshift. O/O's are mostly Peterbilt and Kenworth.

That can't really be right. There has to be more Chevy and GMC 3500's out there than that? I guess that Ford and Ram's domination in the 450 and 550 class really bumps the numbers, but I bet 350's make up a majority of the 3,4,5 class sales.

A GM 3500 is a very rare sighting in these parts. Pretty much any class 3 truck around here are like hens teeth. Just recently, a coworker who knew my truck for years just assumed it was a 2500 and I guess never really looked at the door, but it came up in lunch room banter and when I told him otherwise, he was so surprised. He didn’t even know a Ram 3500 existed like mine. 45 and 5500 are all over the place around here- landscapers and tow trucks. When 4 gens came out, it was such a strange and welcome sight that I started a spotting thread on here, now Ram has the upper hand for certain. Although I am seeing a bit of a resurgence with the ‘17- up F Supers.

I've been watching these figures in HDT for quite a while, and GM has never made much of a showing.
Here's one from almost a year ago:

Navistar's share in the Class 8 went up in 2019 due to having build slots available. DTNA was 6 months to a year out on build slots at one point in time.

Navistar could crank a power unit out in 6 weeks because they had very little backlog...

Garda's a Mexican company that's pretty common any more. I've seen them for decades in Baja.

It's actually a Canadian company that just moved to Florida, I wished they were Mexican that would explain their bad business practices.
