Clueless... mechanical inquiry/help please!

Food Category - Artisan French Rolls!!

We’re selling our 04 grand Cherokee to a friends’ sister so I spent the day at his shop going over it for state inspection. I knew it needed a gas tank shield so I bought that last week. It also had an intermittent evap code. It ended up ( I think) needing a purge valve . I also replaced a rear axle bearing because the seal was weeping on the parking brake shoes.
Fun day tinkering with a friend.

Time for a little compost action for the garden! This was load #2 (see what I did there :D)

Friends,

Decided to fix tach on my tractor today... thought it was just a broken tach cable...wrong. Actually turned out to be a dried shaft bearing on the tach. I drilled it, lubed it with grease, sealed it and put instrument panel back together. Decided to install LED lights in the dash. Now waiting for another tach cable. Cleaned up the dash panel and repainted needles.

Tach mechanism and hour meter. 1072hrs on the clock 2004 MF 1428V 4wd.

Little white dot is hole I drilled with grease in it.

All cleaned, needles painted, ready to install back in the tractor tomorrow.

I'll post pics of it back in the tractor.

You do neat work. In case some didn’t know, as long as the housing isn’t damaged I’ve had a 100% success rate using a universal speedo cable to replace broken or rats nested factory tractor tach cables.

JH,
Thanks for the compliment. I've been looking everywhere...stock cable is 58" long and all are too short. I made first attempt to splice the broken cable using a crushed steel sleeve and solder, but about 1/16" too long. I'm going to try again tomorrow.
Thanks for the suggestion. The factory replacement is $58.30.

Massey Ferguson is like Ford... they build assemblies intended to replace components, then don't offer them that way. They don't sell just the tach/hour meter component, if anything goes wrong with the instrument "ASSEMBLY" you have to but the whole thing for $570. Anyway, fixing things can be fun and challenging.

Cheers, Ron

I don’t have a “Honey-Do” list....I have a “Honey-Do” BOOK!!!

And it’s runnin out of pages FAST!

We’re renovating the whole house, new doors, new trim, new baseboards, painting everything from the top to the bottom, wife just added putting new pool liner into the BOOK.
All this and I’m still working as our company is an essential service.

When do I get to do mods on my truck???

I got this covered! I tell her I have to go to work on the weekend. I do my truck stuff in the shop.
I get home and Honey says “Did you get lot’s done”?

I say “Yup”!

Friends,

Designed recessed steel tub for integrated spare tire storage to fit in rear of CM ER bed on my 2017 Ram 5500. Was storing spare on roof of truck on rack bolted to the bed hauler body headache rack, but it's really hard on the body unloading and loading the spare tire. Finally decided to fix it.
Rear-View-tire-Bed.jpg

Going to have bed cut, recessed tub built, tub installed and welded to bed and bed frame per the following drawings:
tub-2.JPG

and:
Tub-1.JPG

Gonna have the work accomplished next week for ~$1K. Tire and cover will be approximately 1.5" above the level of the bed. this copies some higher end hauler beds ($10K+) with spare tire storage integrated into the bed.

Anyhoo, this should solve my tire storage issues.

Cheers, Ron

Had to laugh a LITTLE ANYWAY? My Amish buddy was test driving his new Buggy by the house he stopped by to see why I had a tractor with Post hole digger out for? I told him that I'm planting trees for future fuel to heat the house, he suggested that he didn't think id be around to see that happen  Not reading a newspaper OR having a TV OR radio & obeying the stay at home order AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE he asked me how the
Arschlöchers of the world are doing? (Need to use a German translator for that one) I told him while not being as isolated as he is (I'm so envious of these people) I really try not to care what the world outside of Greencastle is doing whatever it is usually isn't real positive. He told me to watch out I'm starting to turn Amish :D

I don't know the actual % but I'm sure its probable. I hear that this virus is racial??? its particularly hard on Blacks, Lifestyles, drug use, alcohol abuse, smoking, eating habits, obesity all of which lead to health problems I'm sure attribute to wearing down of their body systems ability to fend this virus off, GEE & IM NOT EVEN A DOCTOR & CAME UP WITH FASCINATING DISCOVERY called COMMONSENSE

In the case of Blacks, years of eating at Mickey D's for every meal IS CATCHING UP TO THEM!!

I believe this whole thing is a planned and staged global pandemic created as a last ditch effort to try and keep Trump from being re-elected.
And everything we're seeing is that mastermind plan in motion...

As for the quarantine blues...I'm just tired of having nothing to do but work on the yard and house. Sitting down at a local restaurant would be nice for a change.

I dunno...Up here in the Keep Washington Green, Bring Money state it appears that Mickey D's has helped...

In a flame fanning mood, I'd like a look at a few billionaire's balance sheets in a few months. I'll wager Soros, Musk, Bezos, Bloomberg, Zuckerberg, etc. will show big increases. (anticipating a SnoKing response with that said…;))

Thread subject injection: I'm getting bored watching the grass grow. I think I may have to go out and mow it tomorrow. It's so exciting living in the country! Really, getting a lot of honey-do stuff done. Only 10,477 pages remaining...:D Maybe order some gravel to fill in the moon craters in the road since the craters/speed bumps haven't slowed certain silly neighbors down.

Bruce,
living in the country is a blessing all for the right reasons... I love the natural separation, not many drop in visitors, plenty to stay busy, and great views (sun rises and sunsets). My friends who live in subdivisions are going nuts... not enough to do. I'm missing going out to eat the most, we used to go out 4 to 6 times a week.

One thing Vivian and I started doing a couple weeks ago is going for long drives on Sundays. We load up the dogs and plan routes in the country. Nice change of pace, we still keep separation, and we get to see all the beautiful wildflowers.

Anyhoo, the pandemic is what it is. We are blessed to be retired and have reliable income. Our investments are down about $300K, but that's OK... we look at it that stocks are on sale, so buying at discounted prices and wait until economy recovers.

I'm not too big on conspiracies, but dont worry about what people want to believe either. I've seen both sides of the coin too many times where the general public didn't have that opportunity to see the truth, which is not necessarily a vote of confidence that things are being done well. If I were going to buy into a theory though, I'd buy into China deliberately releasing virus to disrupt capitalism in the West, reduce thier population problem, and use it as an excuse to strengthen their hold on the population. No more of a stretch than anyone elses ideas.

I've always worried about chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats, especially biological as they can easily be disguised as accidental or natural occurring.

Anyhoo, regardless what we believe, how we deal with it will decide how we survive and eventually prosper.

Cheers, Ron
